tbourner
Girlfriends sister has 2, they are cool little things. Very good climbers and (unlike hamsters) know how dangerous drops are. You'll want to get them quite a big cage though.
how_supra
Better to get two, as they are sociable creatures and love company. Rats are cool.

tbourner
Why don't people like rats? They're not wild sewer rats with diseases! In fact they're cleaner than most pets you can have!! Friend of mine used to have mice, but made the mistake of not seperating males and females!!
Guest Helen
Rats have the play value of cats and dogs plus are very intelligent. All mine answer to their names and will come when called. They are cheap to look after and the only expensive bit is the cage. They are very social creatures and so like to be kept in groups of 2 or more. I wouldn't be without mine.... Guest Helen
err why 43 rats, although i did hear they are a delicacy;) I'll ignore the last part of that remark They are addictive plus I take in a lot of rescue rats too. I also made the mistake of buying a pregnant female but I didn't know she was pregnant plus I bought 3 boys of which 2 turned out to be girls...thx to petsmart for the cock-up

I have always wanted one and to teach i to sit on my shoulder lol... no idea why lol

Steviekid
Rats do make great pets, far better than the other small furries and much less likely to bite. Can be prone to getting mammary tumours but there's not really anything you can do to stop this.

Can be prone to getting mammary tumours but there's not really anything you can do to stop this. It's mainly girls that get these but if detected early respond well to being treated. Rats are very much like us as in getting a lot of the same illnesses and this is why they make good lab animals (even though I don't agree with it) Also a female that has had a litter isn't susceptible to tumours either. andrew7
If you'd ever had problems with wild ones, you'd hate the things. Carry disease in their pee and piss and shit everywhere they go......... Thay also have little gland pouches on the side of their cheeks which they rub against thing as they run along, marking the route (their memoery span is less than 12 hours, so don't expect them to remember that you were the one who fed them the day before...).. Those markings are like a highway to food for all the rats in the neighborhood...bastards..fekkin hate them....although they do do a good job as long as they stay in their own environment (underground)...
