Kerb lowering

It varies from council to council but basically it's about £50 to apply for it. They then consider your application and if approved it's about £300. If they turn you down you still lose the application fee.

£300 to do the job? Thats not too bad I had heard it was a few grand.

According to my Mrs, yeah. She looked into it for our drive when we wanted to make it wider, which would mean we'd need more dropped kerb than we currently have.

The council don't actually do the work, that's up to you to sort out. So it could be anything from a couple of hundred to 'sky's-the-limit' money.

As long as you agree a fixed price with your (workmen/tarmaccers/whatever they're called) you can't go wrong.

What county are you in mate?

Had ours done recently, the drop kerb and all the bits and bobs they needed to make it look nice was around £1k - covering the garden with tarmac and making sure our slight slope didn't cause the Supes to ground cost a fair bit more on that. Actually they were really good about us obsessing with the Supes and got it spot on first time.

Can't recommend enough W Sheaf enough 01322 864219.

They are one of the council approved contractors for Sevenoaks council - my understanding is that you don't have to use a council approved contractor as long as they have the right insurances etc. I'm fairly sure they aren't the cheap option but from start to finish they were done in three days.

Ah, but legally you can't just drive across the patth, unless there's a council approved crossover.

Faye, did they include any white lines across the crossover? Where I used to live, (Wilmot Road) the council lined all the crossovers presumably to stop people (aka idiots) parking over them.

Nope, no white lines. But then again, I'm part of Sevenoaks District Council and they may have different rules to others in Kent.
