whitesupratt
£300 left to spend on food and life per month after rent/mortgage and bills etc.?
Pete
Our shopping bill is usually £50 a week, but we go out too sometimes. We used to only spend 25-30 a week 8 years ago when we first moved in and we're being really frugal. It'd be tight. Hope you've got a lot of DVDs to watch. You don't have to get fuel out of that too do you?
michael
I've lived on less, stay home, buy cheap beer, noodles and porridge. Treat yourself once in a while.

Gazboy
Just before christmas we had our current account raided by a not insignificant amount by fraudsters- we were living on £20 a week food and £20 petrol- this also included pet food for growing puppy. You can do it, but by christ I would never ever want to go there ever again....

Too right I lived in a chicken shed on the moors in Haworth, fantastic views, I missed the little things like running water though. The best thing was looking outside and seeing a brand new car parked there, I've always had my priorities in order
mikeyb10supra
£300 left to spend on food and life per month after rent/mortgage and bills etc.? easy mate.....no problems whatsoever, you just need to be careful ie no massive friday night piss ups, extravegant purchases etc we spend 50 squid a week like pete on food....car rarely gets driven only at weekends so petrol is at a minimum, we pootle around in Jo's Fiesta to save, make our own lunch etc, all saves money, Mikes top money saving tips 1) keep a penny pot and any lose change goes in it 2) make your own lunch 3) walk/bike as much as possible rahter than driving 4) buy tea bags and milk for work....dont buy costas/neros coffee everyday, treat yourself once in a while though 5) limit takeaways im sure you can think of more......sounds really stupid but trust me it all adds up
Charlotte
I should think that would be plenty enough for a young single lad such as yourself. If not, go home to your mums at weekends, no cooking for the whole weekend and she might give you a doggy bag.
Ian R
Shouldn't be a problem secret would be to make a shopping list of what you need and stick to it. Don't get tempted by the bargains that you don't really need thats what bumos up your shopping bill
UltraFlynn
Depends if you're married to my wife. If the answer is yes then £300 is nowhere near enough!

Schtuv
Just about, although kitten food and beer would put me over that, though.
Rob
We're on a limited budget now, but by god we seem to spend a lot on food. By trying really hard we're still spending £110 a week on food, and there's only two of us. I do remember when I was unemployed, we lived off home made veg soups and simple pasta dishes. That was £40 a week Income Support.

penguin
£300 is a very good amount - again, limit yourself on how much you spend a month - £50 is a very good number - you can get a lot of basic food - fruit and veg for that much - or you could sell a kidney and get a few quid
markymark
Best thing to do is to divide your money into four weeks - say £75 a week. Take the money out & put it in envalopes. Each week, open an envalope & spend what you have. When you get near the end of the week & you're skint, you know you only have a day or so to go before you get the next £75. Better than spending all your money in the first half of the month & then being left with nothing... I should really take my own advise - we spend over a £100/week just on food, but we can survive on less if we have to - mr visa & mr mastercard sometimes are too flexible a friend!!! Pig
I would say no chance, its easy enough to spend that in a week if your not concentrating. I would say be careful before you commit yourself to that! Or alternatively do what i do and live on next to nothing so i can save my wages 50% house 50% supra - somewhere in that i also find prezzies for the mrs
Guest probedb
£300 left to spend on food and life per month after rent/mortgage and bills etc.? That's a fortune! Easy to live on that for me I can quite easily do less than £50/week if I have to. Oh the joys of owning a car and saving for a house! Just be careful that's all. Try and do something like get £75 in cash out at the beginning of the week, allowing for food shopping and don't take your credit or debit cards out with you. You'll soon start paying attention to what you spend!
davidd
£50 weekly shop for us (1 daddy, 1 mummy & a 1 year old), Liz set up a spreadsheet of the regular stuff then she just does a filter&sort , hey presto shopping list that she keeps to & knows exactly how much things cost. Cash shopping only. Also, we get some things from farms instead of the supermarket. we had to because after the birth of our son she left work (much happier now), but as a result my Celica has gone along with one of my motorbikes. Max Headroom
put your credit cards in a bowl of water and freeze them, then if you have an impulse to buy something you have to wait for the ice to melt and by that time the impulse has gone. Digsy
Christ, £300 a month just for food? How many of you are there? I've never spent that much, even when I was married. £250 tops back then, £150 to £200 now.
