Another problem with my toy!

:help:

Seems in hot weather the Yaris goes to sleep, at low revs (eg: after changing gear) it has no go, then if you floor it it kind of picks up at about 3k and suddenly zooms off! Feels like walking into a strong wind, then going round a corner and being OK.

Also with the air con on it's worse, whenever the clutch on the AC comes in it hits an even worse flat spot, then picks up again afterwards.

And it seems to overheat a lot, the fan's always coming on, sometimes when it's not even that hot a day!!

I guessed it was a misfire, something like a plug gap too big or whatever - any other opinions? I'd rather not do anything myself but need some ammo for the warranty guys at Mr T - at the moment they just say "There aren't any error codes coming up so it must be fine.".

The air-con problem is normal. I drive mum's Astra auto estate during the week and it's weedy 1.4 engine struggles with the aircon on (less pickup and acceleration).

Sounds like either a cooling issue or possibly a problem with the airflow meter (don't shoot me down not sure if the Yaris has one of these but must have some sort of metering system to do with airflow??).

I assume you've tried the normal stuff like fluid level, squeezing the top and bottom rad pipes to check for fluid/heat?? If the system is pumping the fluids arouns as they should be then maybe thermostat??

Could check air filter and airbox for any debris that may be restricting the incoming airflow (had that happen once with a garage who left part of the old filter in situ and stuffed the new one on top!).

The only thing that is a mystery is why no fault codes are showing up at all?!?! Doesn't help matters as a rough idea of where the fault is located would soon help to get a better idea of the problem/solution.

May be worth asking them to try the diagnostics again on a day like today with the aircon on and with the engine up to temperature to see if that helps? (I remember seeing a thread somewhere on how the first time it came up all good and then on a second attempt had 3 faults! was within a few minutes of each other as well from memory!)

Sorry if that's not what you were looking for m8, just felt sorry for you not getting any replies and thought i'd offer my 2p worth!!! Just my opinion.

Hope you get it sorted.

All the best,

Pete :)
