Problem with crank pulley >>>

I have bugged my water pump and need to fit a new one. So im trying to get the crank Bolt off...cant get it undone.

 

MY car is a jspec TT Manual, so i tried the gear method but the engine is still turning, probably because the clutch cant hold it as it needs replacing.

 

So i was going to resort to the make the special tool up method. But looking at the pully on the engine it does not have the holes for it to screw in!!! Is this cause its a manual or something??? Whats going on...help!

it has the two bolt holes, but not the ones on the outside of the pulley that are used to attach the big metal bar two.

 

The only ones on it are the two that are close to the crank nut. But they are either side of it so u cant use the bar method. Its asiff toyota forgot to put the holes in the pulley!

If removing when the engine is still in the car then a "puller" will do the job otherwise it is the air-gun jobbie if the engine is out of the car!

Had the same problem with mine...:rolleyes:

A puller isn't used for removing bolts. :)

 

They're used for pulling gear wheels and pulleys from shafts.

 

If you have the tapped holes in the pulley then you can lock it using them, either make up you own tool or buy one (mkivstore.com has them).

 

For the bolt, an impact socket is stronger but you'll need a long lever to undo it.

I did wonder to be honest!

 

My pully does not have the tapped holes...why is this???

 

I have a 24" breaker bar that should work, but i have tried locking the engine with the gearbox method (manual car) but the clutch is slipping so it cant hold, so the crank bolt spins.

 

Regarding the socket i only have a normal socket in the right size. I have an inpact socket but its a mm to big! Went to halfrauds and they didnt have one in the right size..said it was a strange size to use!

 

Gonna have another go when i get home.

Are you sure it doesn't have the two bolt holes? I'd be very surprised if it doesn't.

You can use a regular socket but it might break. Worth a try though. At a push you can use a 7/8ths socket which is very slightly bigger than 22mm
