Gamer
http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/DG834.asp Turn the router over and read the model number to make sure you are going to download the correct firmware. Download, then log into the modem set-up screen and select firmware upgrade. Follow the instructions from there..... ** make sure you get the correct one for your model, if you get it wrong you could render your modem inoperable. markssupra
You can download firmware updates from netgears website. Just make sure what model you have.
Homer
Netgear routers have a pretty simple interface. If you go the support section on the netgear site (http://www.netgear.com) you can download the latest firmware You'll need to log on the router in IE usually addres http://192.168.0.1 and enter username and password (Netgear default is usually 'admin' and 'password') Next go to 'Router upgrade', browse to the firmware file you downloaded and upload. Don't reboot or switch off the modem until its done!

Dash Rendar
I downloaded the latest firmware last week and my internet connection no longer drops Same here. I bought a Netgear DG834G a while back. It kept dropping the connection, especially when I was using a VPN. Upgrading the firmware (to 3.01.25) sorted it for me.
