RedM
Location: Worthing, West Sussex. Littlehampton Road on the 30mph DCW leading from the Boulevard roundabout towards the North Star pub. On the central reservation was a little red and white board with an LED display that flashed up your speed past a given point. I went round twice to see if its reading matched my speedo and it did. However, two days later it had gone. I've never seen one of these before and I'm just wondering if it's a commom thing down south. Anyone?

RedM
I should have nabbed it for my own use.
Homer
When they first starting using these things in the states (years ago), they used to have 3 digits. Then, there began a craze of seeing how fast you could get the things to display and accidents and average speed increased significantly. They had to reduce them to 2 digits to get speeds back to normal again
jamesmark
Its a new way of making people to observe there speed. Mind you knowing in the government they put them on the roads that has no speeds signs in the first place.
Ark
We had one of those for a few days, nearby the house. Slightly odd location, because it's housing one side, fields the other side, 40 mph, no schools, no pubs... I supposed the limit is pretty heavily abused though... In general I approve of them, it does wake you up a little, and you can get an idea of your speedo calibration.
RedM
and you can get an idea of your speedo calibration. Which is why I went round twice.
Thorin
One in Doncaster, I've resisted the urge to try and see what happens if you go over 99mph
SimonB
One in Doncaster, I've resisted the urge to try and see what happens if you go over 99mph Probably a good idea, friend of mine knew someone that did that trying to set a good score the second time but unfortunately found a policeman behind it the second time.
