Daston
Hi guys I am still having problems with my lights on my instrament panel (speedo, rev counter, fuel gauge.) all other lights in the car work fine, there is power going to socket where the dimmer plugs in and I have changed all the 10a fuses in the drivers foot well. I am thinking it could be the resistor inside the dimer unit that has gone, if so how can I check this? Also is there a way I can short out the socket so that the lights are always on? Cheers
leelbuk
Have you got access to a multimeter mate to test the dimmer? Bloody dashboards! Just put mine back together after the Open day and now got the dreaded code 42 problem!
Daston
yeah got a multi meter what setting do I need to put it on to test the dimmer, I am guessing its Omes do I just put one conector to one pin and the other to earth?
leelbuk
Nah mate, test it when its not connected as if a current flows through the meter when its set to measure resistance then you'll blow the meter. Put the testers red lead on one pin (on back of dimmer) and put the black lead on another pin while adjusting the knob on the dimmer. See if the resistance changes when you do it. leelbuk
Yeah mate, since the dimmer knob is just a fancy variable resistor its resistance should change as you rotate the knob. You should have tried mine in your car mate while we were both at interpro! My dash was in pieces anyhow!
Terminator
Surely if all the other lights are OK ie dimable it cant be the dimmer or am I missing something here.
leelbuk
Nah mate, the dimmer only affects dials, odometer but does not affect heater control LED's etc
