paul mac
i gave the head a clean up when doing the stem seals, nothing mad cleaned out all the exhaust ports, piston crowns, combustion chambers and polished, cleaned and polished all the valves and lapped them back in, this is worth doing as the exhaust side were quite rough/pitted, on the intake side you need to leave the rough surface finish (this is hear on purpose) i think its to do with turbulent flow, i knife edged the web where the port splits into the valves, i also did quite a bit of port matching between the manifolds and the head (particularly exhaust side) it really isn't to hard to do yourself you just have to be patient, i have experience porting 2 strokes but you could buy a book if you fancy having a go, i also found a flexible drive grinder at Argos that helped a lot
Kranz
Its worth cleaning up the head while its off to: 1) Get the crap off the back of the valve heads 2) Remove the carbon build up in the exhaust ports 3) take out the rough machining marks and casting flash that producton leaves behind 4) Give you something to do when the Mrs wants you out of the house Doesn't hurt to clean it up before putting it back on. p.s. anyone got a spare head I can fettle before swapping them over when I do the valve stem seals??
