Bending Carbon Fibre?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to bend carbonfibre? I guess the fact it is heat resistant would mean a very high temp required, probably more than I have @ home :) are carbonfibre bits that are bent done so during the construction process? I have 1mm sheet carbon fibre that I would need a little bend in to "hook" over something, is it possible?

Depends how much you want to bend it. You can usually form it a little by heating it up with a hot air gun on the hottest setting. It won't bend by much though, but then that's dependant on the lay-up.

Yes carbon fibre is generally shaped during the "construction" or laminating process.

If you're trying to bend it enough to "hook over something" then it sounds like you're asking too much.

I was actually trying to do this:

looks a bit of a bend though?
