The spark plugs work as well.. and as far as i can see the air filter looks fine as well. Charged the battery, and occasionally it will tick over and die. After checking various other bits, i decided to turn the RLTC off and check the connections under the footwell again. - Left the cover off the ecu and tried and this time the car started. Gave it some revs and it sounded like it was trying to suck soooo much air in.. It smelt very rich as well and if i let go of the accelerator it would die instantly. After it died i couldn't get the car started unless i disconnected the battery and reset the alarm... I was kind of happy that it started... any ideas what it is? Or do i call an Auto Electrician? scooby_doo_do Posted July 12, 2006 Author Share Posted July 12, 2006 Yep, didn't sound too happy when i revved it....Just sounded lumpy. It didn't hold its revs either... The Battery went dead as i had my hazards on for 8 hours waiting for the AA to turn up.. I've charged it since then but not fully - This may need charging again as i've tried to start the car several times since charging it up.. absz Posted July 12, 2006 Share Posted July 12, 2006 i had the same type of problem on mine some while back, the idle was very lumpy and will cut out as soon as the throttle was applied. the fault turned out to be sticking fuel injectors were the car sat for a long period. As it was all working fine, until i braked hard and then after that it cut out.. Only thing i can think off is i had someone sitting in the passenger seat at the time and wondered if his feet knocked something? Other strange thing is - After it started twice i moved some of the wires about and tried again but this time it was dead - no nothing as if battery wasn't connected.. tbourner Posted July 12, 2006 Share Posted July 12, 2006 Sounds a bit like my problems I had, which turned out to be (as just mentioned) wiring problems. Mine was the 12V to the FCD dry joint, which meant randomly having no MAF signal at all!! The engine was guessing how much fuel to use!! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Mark B Posted July 12, 2006 Share Posted July 12, 2006 I'm a new member. Check your inter cooler hoses. Mine had dropped off on the nearside at the bottom of the radiator. Chucks out black smoke and stinks of fuel... So i think its massivly overfueling... Any ideas what wires i should now be looking at? Thanks.. Ian C Posted July 13, 2006 Share Posted July 13, 2006 Well it's sounding like you've got what I had, and I only cured it by refurbing all my ECU connectors. They end up like a wizard's sleeve with repeated pluggings over the years. Er, don't quote that sentence out of context. Step one, pull the connector off your ecu and examine the pins (a torch and a quick course in contortionism would be good). Look at them up close and see how big a gap there is for the ECU pin to slide into. If they are pretty wide then you really should just do the lot. Failing that it's probably a gammy wire in your loom where it's been hacked about for addons. If you have any addons then the least painful course of action in the long run is to remove the bloody lot of them and repair the harness, then see what happens. You can also fashion a multimeter probe out of a safety pin and some tape which lets you push through wiring insulation with minimal damage, and check as close to the ECU as possible what the wire voltages are. I recommend doing that to the turbo pressure sensor and the throttle position sensor as a start. -Ian Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Well i managed to keep the engine ticking over long enough to move the car to a more sensible place rather than next to the fence so i can now open the passenger door.. Whoohoo.. Use a small flat blade screwdriver to pop it out from these tabs." ok, lets revise this - pop out tabs then tug with whatever device is at hand to try and get the rubber sheild to move...
