Bobbeh
Yeah, very dissapointing for him and the French, I'm happy for Italy but that kinda tarnished the game for me. I doubt his talent over the years will be overshadowed by that, I just hope they dont turn against him in France.
imi
I'm personally glad Italy won it, they've been by far the best side of the world cup overall. Only conceeding 2 goals all the way - an own goal and a penalty (that wasn't a penalty anyway I might add!) Testament to how boring they have played......flippin drama queens...... Shame though....Rooney is England's Zidane in a way....and hence he was targeted by the Portuguese...they know they can beat him by playing football...so anything to get him off. Similar thing happened to Zidane today.....and I am sure it takes a lot to piss Zizu off...for him to really headbut that italian wanker so hard....(good header that... )
Kopite
I think the team that most deserved to win was Germany, think they played some great football and didn't see too much diving from them (except that Michael Bollocks )

Just goes to show that even with a mediocre team like the one that the germans had - provided you play to a plan as a TEAM...you can get far...and boy did they do well. Takes a good manager to do that though....unlike fetus face Ericksson.

SUPRASUZUKI
According to one of the French lads here at work, Zidane was called a terrorist. Given that he does a lot to get racism out of the game, that insult tipped him over the edge. That head butt makes Rooney's 'stamp' look like a gentle stroke!!! garetheves
Whats even more rediculous is the fact that he has one the Goldon Ball award for the tournaments best player....What a joke. He was practically none existant for the first 2 games, got sent off in the final. How can he get the award over the likes of Klose and the other quality players that played?? Was just reading that on skynews about the golden ball - alright, it was decided at half time, but even up until then, he had yellow cards galore & another sending off.... chilli
Must admit the 3rd place play off game between Germany and Portugal felt more like the final than the actual final did! I'm glad Germany got at least 3rd place, they played well as sportsmen and they were an excellent host nation - they should be proud (and I'm glad Portugal lost - the cheating fcukers!). When you are a 'professional' you simply have to rise above the goading. Regardless of what was said there is no excuse for physical violence on the pitch at any level - let alone in the world cup final watched by millions around the world. That is the behaviour of an amature. Still there is no excuse for goading either (but they probably wouldn't bother doing it if no one took the bait!). In the end Italy took flawless penalties and won - think that is fair play to them. They were unlucky not to score 2 or 3 more goals in normal time with balls bouncing off the woodwork. Funny how they plaid so well in the 1st half and looked much the better side and then came out after half time and looked much more average. Almost sounds like England lol
simonas
I was gutted he did that only because HE;S MY FAVOURITE EVR PLAYER. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PLAYER TO WATCH AND i ACTUALLY wanted France to win because of him and because Itlay were one of the worst teams I have seen to win world cup!! he'll still go down as one of best ever though
tbourner
Zidane will be remembered for that now though rather than his skills. At least he'll be remembered I suppose, I bet Owen will be forgotten in a few years.

osso
Genius! lets face it, who's going to remember Micheal Owen in a few years as someone has mentioned before?! who would've remembered Eric Cantona until he performed a flying kick at a football supporter?! Who would've remembered Vinnie if it wasnt for his violent hardman reputation on and off the football field?! look where it has got him now. montezumola
Italians played rubbish, typical negative play....didnt deserve to win. That's a very harsh statement mate. Italy were unlucky not to be up at half-time, even though going a goal down. Okay, so France motored up a gear after 60-70 minutes and looked to create the better chances - but when was the last time the French scored from open play? The second round! Overall, Italy are deserved winners - their overall World Cup campaign has been more consistent and played with more passion than the French. JSPECGermany - As for boring, negative play - did you see France play Portugal? That epitomises your statement!
Rob Davey
I think football should take the lead from ice hockey. If you don’t like what someone did you first take off your boots (so studs are out the equation) and gloves (if you’re Henry) and then fight until someone hits the deck or till the ref decides to break you up. Then pick yourself and your deflated ego back up and carry on. God bless America…

I think he has a lot to answer for, stabbing him in the back like that (after all they played together in Serie A for years - quite of the italian team are probably mates with zizu) world is a cruel and a harsh place to treat legends that have given so much to the game and to the people. I see what you're saying but to be honest they all antagonise each other from time to time, isn't that part of being a professional - to rise above it? He should have been focused to win not worrying about what was being said, and anyway no one knows for sure exactly the dialog between them anyway? Jspec Germany
Ok, here's a question for you Monte..... what thought goes through every Italian players head just before a defender challenges them? Should I grab my face or shin while balled up in the fetal position rolling around whining in pain? Shall I quote "A Christmas Story"? - "F - R - A - G - I - L - E........must be Italian." Why is it they're so quick to pick up both feet when fouled while making horrifically agonizing facial expressions... yet... after a few moments and a little cold spray or water, oh,..............what do you know... all ready to play again,....no problem. They DISHONOR the game with their bullsh*t.

I'm not defending diving or 'simulation' by the Italian players - but in this world cup peeps have shown that when it comes to diving, if an Italian does it the entire team are branded cheats ... but when it involves other teams and players, nobody bats an eyelid. Henry's simulation against Spain was pure scandal, yet he had f*ck all negative press - there he was clutching his face on the floor when it was blindingly obvious the challenge was nowhere near his head! Ballack for Germany spent more time rolling over than an expert Gloucester Cheese roller does in a lifetime! Portugal ... well, nuff said about them FFS give Italy a break, they've just won a long overdue World Cup, now go and enjoy the celebrations in Rome! ChrisSZ
It's a long time since I watched a decent game of top-level footy - and I'm still waiting (grr!). My general impression these days is of a bunch of over-paid, pampered primadonnas with glass legs! Watch rugby instead - the guys take a propper smack and just get straight back into the game - the ref rules and no-one winges and whines to him (usually). Why can't football get back to it's roots? Because there's so much money thrown at the game that the roots have withered and died

Because there's so much money thrown at the game that the roots have withered and died yeh this, high foot rule! what a poncy rule and rules out most/all overhead attempts on goal, not sure when loads of footballers starting getting knocked out each match and suffering appalling head injuries? .......must have missed that season? They kick the ball out when someones injured (or maybe not) as thats what fair plays about and yet they all pull shirts during the game. In my eyes we, the fans, are deprived alot of entertaining football through blatant shirt pulling. I dare say even Ronaldo etc wouldn't resort to play acting so much if he and other attacking and skillful players efforts weren't forever stiffled by foul play. A mistimed tackle can land you an yellow even if it was a genuine attemp for the ball, whilst you can often get away with just a free kick for a shirt tug and yet no one accidentally grabs someones shirt do they?
