Scooter
mate ideally you need a tool like the one in this attached picture....it screws into the two holes on the pulley and then rests on the inner drivers side wing to lock the pulley.
Scooter
take it your car is a manual? if so then i think your in gear method can work if you get a volunteer to sit holding the brakes on
Lubas
ok mate!! your a star!! i'll try that now
normore1
Either use the tool described above or place a breaker bar on the nut and brace it against the chassis then engage the starter a couple of times (make sure you have a fully charged battery). You may need a cheater pipe on the breaker bar to ensure it braces against the chassis and won't hit any essential component (watch out for the A/C pipes). If this does not free the nut then you will need the tool. You will also need the cheater pipe and lots of muscle.
Lubas
as i turn the bolt the pulley moves just enough for me not to be able to turn the bolt anymore because my wrench hits the wing. think i'm gona have to get one of the special tools. do you know where i can get one like the one in the picture? Guest gzaerojon
it might be worth trying an air gun on it first, the fact that they judder might be enough to crack the threadlock stuff just a thought
Soonto_HAS_soop
As a heads up, mine failed to come off with any of the above methods, I ended up buying a new bolt and large chisel, took ages to get it to shift...
garethr
......place a breaker bar on the nut and brace it against the chassis then engage the starter a couple of times............ with the plugs out or disconnected so that it doesn't start up

Guest Draven
I've just been through this with my car. The method that worked for me was: 1. inox/wd40/lubricant (I used inox due to previous excellent experience) 2. tap it with a hammer. the shock will help to loosen any rust that may be holding it on. 3. (heat). I didn't use this, but it was next on the list. 4. breaker bar + BIG extension bar braced against the ground, and crank it over with the starter motor. geoffvalenti
3. (heat). I didn't use this, but it was next on the list. FFS don't use heat EVER. You'll damage the rubber section of the pulley
