andrew7
Hi all Went today and what a show!.... Anyone around Beds. area or even further, its well worth a look at tomorrows show, if only for the sound of 10 Spitfires doing a scramble take-off. The whole show was good..highly recommended, good day out and loads for the kids to do(if you are inclined to take them that is.... ).. Pete
Free if you have a Blue Peter Badge (Readily Available On Ebay) :d :d :d :d : They've stopped that now. All blue peter badge attractions are suspended until they issue proper photo ID or something. It was on the BBC breakfast show a couple of weeks back. SupraStar 3000
never seen a ME109 flying. Would love to have seen that. Still think the Sea Fury is the best looking aircraft. Looks so aggressive
andrew7
Agree on the Sea Fury. That and the Tempest were the max development for a piston aircraft. Rad a report of a guy who had well over 500mph in a shallow dive...Shame we didn't get them earlier..
SupraStar 3000
Don't they still race Sea Fury's in the states at air races. Would love to see a Typhoon or Tempest flying. Or even another Mosquito Never mind the millenium doom, the government should give a grant to keep all these warbirds flying. Look at this years Queens Birthday. Whats was the highlight? Yes,. the BMF and a flypast. And don't get me started on the fookin stupid insurance changes. Cost the same to keep Sally B flying as a BA 737. AHhhhhhh
Swampy442
Agreed Suprastar, same thinggoes for the cold war jets like vulcan lightning etc. Where Im based theres a Buccaneer in the hangar airworthy but cant get permission to fly it Think of the crowds they would draw. SupraStar 3000
and the English Electrical Lightning,... WOW now thats uncompromised power They have some flying in sounth africa. Buccaneer's too
Swampy442
I know, thats because the aviation authority over there is alot more, erm, cooperative than the UK's.
andrew7
never seen a ME109 flying. Would love to have seen that. Yes, great plane..shame about the undercarriage!...... Out of the 36,000 produced, 5% of them crashed on take-off or landing... A 109 engine was sent to RR three or four years ago (think it was Black Six's engine) and they said, "Whatever you do, don't blow up this engine as we can't work to these tolerances to repair it..." And 60 years ago they made 36k of them...
SupraStar 3000
who owns this flying 109 then? Is it Duxford?

Digsy
I'd have liked to have seen the 109 flying too. Not been to a proper airshow for ages. The 109 could escape a Spit by doing a negative g pushover because its engine was fuel injected, but then again it woudln't make that great cut-out pop and crackle sound that the Spit does when it does its victory roll My folks used to take me to Duxford almost every year when I was a kid, but I'd not been there for about 20 years when my girfriend and I popped in on her suggestion since we were driving past. After such a long gap, almost everything was new. Totally blown away by the US hanger Can't wait for the UK one to be finished. Shame so much of the exhibits will be under wraps until then. andrew7
Digsy, you missed a great show. The continuity was brilliant, no waiting between displays, it was a seamless display for three hours. As each aircraft was doing its final break for landing after its display the next displayer was entering the arena above it. The timing was awesome... And the finale was over 40 WWII aircraft in formation...awesome... The UK hanger will be open by the end of summer (there is another show then)..
