Car Won't Start after Engine Swap.

Hi guys,

 

Over the last couple of days I have been doing an engine swap. The reason for this was one of my piston rings was worn and so was burning alot of oil, and it worked out cheaper to replace the engine rather than rebuild it.

 

Got everything back together this afternoon and came to turn the key, the car turns over but won't fire up.

 

Have checked all fuses, wether there's fuel getting through, all the plugs and if there was a spark. All were ok.

 

the engine and wiring loom I have put in is from a facelift version and the one that came out was a non facelift. The only thing I can think of is the ecu. I am using the original ecu and not the facelift, could it be this?

 

any advice would be appreciated.

When you say facelift, they're both non-VVTi engines, right?

 

Are you 100% sure fuel is getting through?

Have you checked the cam timing is right?

 

Yes Jake, both are non vvti. The fuel is definitely getting to the fuel rail.

 

As for the timing, haven't checked that, but the timing belt hasn't been removed during the swap. the engine came straight out of Ark's old car so i'm presuming that all is correct. will check to be certain though.

Why on earth did you change wiring looms? - There are a few differences throughout the car. Not sure if theres anything that would prevent the car from starting, but, lets hope its all OK

 

Have you checked for error codes?

 

Have you got the engine earths back in place?

The new engine came with the wiring loom attatched so i kept it on the engine.

No, need to do a quick search on how to do this.

Yes, checked and checked again to be sure!

Ok jim Are you getting fuel up?? check the Fuel pump relay, Check and listen for the pump operating. Check all the Vacuum line connections at the EGR, and Pressure tanks. If you know your getting fuel and spark then take it from there.
