Supra ST Myster
Just found out my car (Jap Import Auto TT) hasnt got LSD and i alway thought it did, so can i buy one and stick it on the car if they didnt come with one and are they woth having? Why? Will i notice anything different? Is it worth getting an upgraded one or is the standard one good? cheers
Jake
It's a good thing to have. Gives you much a much better feeling of control on tight corners. Personally I'm happy with the OE LSD but the likes of Chris Wilson will tell you the more expensive TRD etc ones are better. I know LeeT had a spare LSD from a UK spec (Slightly higher gearing on the UK) that he doesn't need now. If you could get that for like £150-200 it would be a worthwhile mod. Pete
I agree with Jake there. Having had a TT Supra with no LSD and now one with, I'd say it's a noticable difference. However, ChrisWs reasoning and others that have fitted them have persuaded me to order a TRD one at some point in the future as they're much tricker pieces of kit. Nic
TRD sell 2 versions of their LSD, this is the one to fit either the early Supras without an LSD or all facelift Supras. 41301-JS402 TRD Mechanical LSD I can supply these for a very good price, let me know if you need details. BURT
i have a TRD diff.. and must say how amazing they are.. i have no experiance of what the std lsd is like as i had an open diff, but the TRD one really is worth the money, it gives so much traction, better handling and overall gave me so much more confidence in the car to push myself tha little bit further when driving, even when i do loose traction it is so much more controllable than my old one... fantastic bit of kit, deffo one of the best mods i have done

Chris Wilson
Best handling mod for reasonable money you can make. apart from my custom suspension. the TRD LSD is VERY civilised, unlike race type ones. They can be very very noisy and shuddery at low to medium speeds, as Pete may vouch, and most people wouldn't want one in a road car.
Pete
apart from my custom suspension. Well of course that goes without saying! as Pete may vouch Me - "Chris, I think somethings going to fall off!" BURT
im looking into the TRD diff after talking to Jamiep on sunday. Whats it like at cornering? if you have spoken to jamie he will have told you how stable the car feels.. i have no traction cntrll either and yet the car is so agile.. yes the back end is still able to loose traction but so much easier to contrll, i get a lot more feedback from the trd diff especially in cornering and track days, thre car tracks so much straighgter aswell so well spins i a straight line are easier to controll too.. a defo mod imo

colsoop
Have a look at your model plate, under the trans / axle bit it will say something like w58 AO1A if it has a B at the ends instead of an A then you have a torsen LSD.
JohnK
Does the TRD diff need a lot of expert setting up or is it a buy, fit, forget, job?
Chris Wilson
It needs the tooth pattern checking, and the side bearing preloads checking. If you are not used to setting up diffs with Engineers Blue and dial guages, and torque guages, it's very tricky.
