Pete
I was thinking about getting this done for me and Vicki. For her more than anything to make her a bit more streetwise. Does anyone get discounted insurance for theirs? What kind of stuff does it cover? Is it worth doing overall? Ta.
GeordieSteve
I'm organising a small car show along with the IAM to try and get more young lads and lasses to do the IAM examination. Met up with the trainer the other day for a sit down and a coffee and he was a lovely bloke and very happy to help out after hearing about Karl. He said a young friend of his bought a GSXR1000 (ok it's a bike but this is an example). His insurance was £2000. After he took his IAM it dropped to £

Its a very exspensive thing to do, it does bring your insurance down but if you already have cheap insurance then it might not be worth it. I was seriously considering becoming a driving instructor but then i got 6 points so thats been put on hold for 4 years

ivan
I got mine back in '91. I don't even bother mentioning for insurance quotes these days as so many insurers don't bother with it. They're far more interested if you're a member of a car club or buy car mags... Mind you, the training is well worth it without any financial benefit. Class One
I can thoroughly recommend the training, it is, as they say a skill for life. It builds on the foundation of skills that you already possess, and allows you to develop them to make you a safer (note lack of better!) driver. I'm sure a lot of us on here think we're good drivers. Doing my driver training taught me that I wasn't, that there was a lot to learn, and I'm still learning every time I get behind the wheel. Even if it doesn't benefit your insurance, it will benefit you. Arrive Alive!
Angie
Mind you, the training is well worth it without any financial benefit. Mentioned this to Brian and we really don't see the insurance coming down from £2k to £300 though. He says he'll have to check how they rate this at work next week. (He works for a rather large insurance company.)

Obviously not £100 when im an old man but will still make it cheaper.
chilli
I thought about this before and got all the paperwork through. Don't mean to be rude or ageist but it was some old fuddy duddy and it kinda put me off lol so I never went for it - still interested though. I take it you do the training in your own car?
