WD40 and paintwork

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if using WD40 on paintwork has any ill effects? I've just been using it on my sills to get rid of those damn tar spots whilst i've still got skin left on my fingers. Its a lot better than rubbing with wax (after all it is a degreaseant) but i just wondered if it does any harm.

I've only done one sill so no harm done anyway :)

Never had any reaction before : RSTurbo (Mainly engine bay but also inside door closure etc where I didn't want to WASH)

or on my bikes etc (ALWAYS use it on rear wheel to remove chain grease - doesn't affect painted wheel)

Of course DOES leave oily residue so can't really paint/wax etc without washing off first . . !

????????????????????????????? (BUT no guarantee obviously)

Talking of tar spots, I've just tried some Turtle Wax spray on Tar and Insect remover ................. superb stuff. Leave it for a minute to soak in and then it comes right off from wiping with a clean cloth. I'd recommend it.

Cheers

And no, I've never had any problems with WD40 and paint. With the exception of getting the smears off afterwards!

Hasn't done in my experience. As soon as I've wipes the stuff away and checked all the tar has gone I immediately wash the area down so as no to leave anything on the paintwork for too long.
