Lucifer
I have a customers car in for respray, that I was hoping to get ready for the 9th. Ran out of paint as we have to repaint the car due to translucent paint in sunlight, so I cant paint the skirts. The exhaust for the car hasnt turned up so the rear bodykit wont fit. Other people are out of brake pads for the weekend. - Paint shop has run out, Waiting on ICI delivery tomorrow. The customers whos car it is now isnt coming and sounds well annoyed, and ive been working pretty much all week on this car and then one thing at the last min, stops it all! TRD3000GT
Its the game we play... I am pretty hard on tuners and engineers with my car when I give them deadlines and I still always end up getting rogered.. From now on its a fixed price for work and if a tuner oversteps the deadline Im going to start to remove a fee per day. Ive done this with one engineer and it worked beautifully! Im all for paying the right ammount to have things done and Im very willing to do so if its all sorted in a suitable time frame..

Ive done this with one engineer and it worked beautifully! Interesting concept. It would have to be agreed up front, in which case I can't see many people wanting to 'risk' dealing on these terms? I guess it depends on how much they want the business. Would you do this Martin?
Lucifer
I always give realistic time frames, but in this case its my suppliers that have let me down. TO be fair this car is in for an awefulot of work, adn just 4 weeks to do it in.

I guess it depends on how much they want the business. Would you do this Martin? You cant do a deal like this if all the parts are not there.. But if parts are in stock or you have supplied them ALL then this works as its hours worked on the car. I just do this to make sure they do it all in one go instead of a little here and a little there.. Im fed up with people who do that to me. Lucifer
Ah right yeah I know wha tyou mean. If all these parts were in stock then this car would have been finished this week no questions. Never mind. Customer is always right I guess!
Pete
Customer is always right I guess! Not the majority of my customers Luckily they don't mind being 'told'.

Can't believe I'm actually agreeing with you for once (haha) but this is the only way for me now I've been stung far to many times now and totally so many thousands for offering even the slightest bit of niceness or trust. letmeshowyou
Martin, no guess about it, the customer IS always right (even when they're not ) The customer may well be annoyed, but provided you've kept them informed along the way, and they were aware there may be parts delays, it's just something they'll have to deal with. Don't lose any sleep over it Re: brake pads - have you tried fensport? They normally have EVERYTHING in stock from my experience!

Lucifer
It gets worse. Customer has now communicated basically how rubbish I am at keeping to a timeframe. Geeez I give in, I sepnt so long on this car only for 3rd party suppliers to let me down. I feel like giving up on Sunday altogether. Maybe offer some discount as its not the customers fault either but a full refund, i dont think so

Well depressed I can tell you. martin, ure on too much haribo. we all know how much you will go out of your way to keep customers happy and how good your service is, but i could never see how refunding 2.5k is justified. These things happen, and its not your fault. all you can do is inform the guy whats happening and keep him upto date.
