EGT Gauge Readings

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Now that i have got the EGT sensor installed to the 1st port on the manifold and here are the readings for a completely standard j-spec soop

Idle @ 320 ~ 400 C

normal cruising varies from anywhere to 500 and 700 C

max boost at 0.85 bar 790 C

i am assuming this is all perfectly normal for a completely standard j-spec soop.. obviously i am planning to do a full decat soon and expect the temps to drop, i dont know how much will the EGT temps will drop when the cats are removed, im guessing around 50C ~ 80C

I am also assuming that a FMIC will drop the temps further.

Check out the search button on these figures James

920 is fine - anything over a thousand = not good

Before my FMIC I was hitting 980 on a hot day!

But the EGT is the PITA gauge - and you can ruin you life by the thing!

:O running at 980 is seriously pushing the engine to the limit! the great thing about the defi gauges you can set the warning limit to any value you wish, say 850, when that limit is hit a red light will come on, so you dont have to keep an eye on the EGT gauge all the time

the peak button is pretty useful too!

900 is good, nice and efficient. 950 is as high as you'd want to see under any circumstances other than a drag race. Anything into four figures is trouble.

It also depends on where the probe is, it's gotta be on the manifold somewhere rather than after the turbo, but if you were reading 900degC after the turbo it's probably on fire :)
