Need4Speed
I've just discovered that Michelin's online map system shows all the fixed speed cameras in France. Worth a look if you're planning a trip. http://www.viamichelin.co.uk
SimonB
What so you can make sure you're prepared for your photo opportunity with a friendly wave, going fast enough to set them off? They can't get you with a camera in France, only if you get pulled over by a Gendarme.

cainhead
They may be changing next year. The plan is to be able to put points on a British licence. I think it will first come into use in Northern France. Dont quote me and this and im sure someone may have the exact answer but, its been on the cards for a while. I drive in France alot and its the only time I really get to open up on the roads, being a rep is not easy on your licence. But until then, yeah give them a good pose in your way through a camera. Dont be fooled though. The French coppers are getting very sneaker and more mobile units are being used. Just watch for the people on the otherside of the roads flashing you to let you know of a camera up ahead, (there good with doing that over there). One last thing. If you do get pulled by a car. The standard fine is 90 euro. If you do not have this in cash, they will escort you to the nearest cash machine!
Bobbeh
I'd rather pay a fine than have points thanks Wish the police would do the same here
SimonB
They've really cracked down in France now, if they catch you doing more than 40Kph over the limit it's a 90 euro fine and 15 day ban (only applies to France, but unless you have a passenger you're stuffed). More than 50Kph over and it's a 750 Euro fine and 1 month ban. If you can't pay on the spot they can confiscate your car. Heard plenty of stories at Le Mans this year of people that had been banned on the way down. They've been talking about having a Europe wide points thing for ages now, can't see it happening myself as you'd have to have a standard across Europe for points and the number you get for various things. There's no way the member states are going to agree that one between them!
