Guest Supersonic
Please support our boycott and campaign against The Sun Newspaper and in particular current columnist and former editor Mr Kelvin Mackenzie for inciting racial hatred between the Scottish and English communities. This is in reference to a deeply offensive and racially motivated article printed by The Sun on the 22nd of June 2006, in which he states his pleasure at statistics that indicate Scots die younger than people from other areas of the UK. We seek a full written apology be printed in The Sun newspaper from Mr Mackenzie and the newspaper itself, for its disgusting and highly insensitive comments. The article in full for your information: - The Sun 22nd June 2006 Kelvin Mackenzie I have some good news and bad news about the English-hating Scots. The good news is that they are dying sooner than the rest of us. The Office of National Statistics reveals that Glaswegians especially are going early. The Government office says that thanks to a lifelong diet of misery, cynicism, fried ma arse bars and tins of syrupy beer, Glaswegians are turning in their sporrans at 70 years old, compared to the UK average of 76. Now the bad news, Five years ago Allan Robinson, 44, moved from Leeds to the ugly suburb of Coatbridge in Lanarkshire. (Last year, Coatbridge had more 999 calls than the rest of Scotland. Nice people.) He put a single St George's cross in his window to support England. The effect; thugs smashed three windows. He went down to the shops in his England kit with his girlfriend and the local’s hurled abuse at them. He was so frightened, he didn't leave his home all weekend and is now thinking of moving. Only thinking? The faster we accept that Scotland and England are two nations divided by a common language, the better. My solution is simple. Build Hadrian's Wall another hundred foot higher and start airlifting in parcels of... ma arse bars. It is simple to join this campaign, if you buy The Sun, Stop buying it!! This is just the latest in a long line of insulting and downright outrageous comments made by the this man, I believe in his latest column he refers to us Scots as “Tartan Tosspots” but he is best known for his role as editor of The Sun newspaper from 1981 to 1993 and is remembered as the man responsible for the paper's coverage of the Hillsborough disaster. This caused controversy for sometime after over the alleged behaviour of some of the Liverpool fans, much of which is still disputed. Due to MacKenzie's actions sales of The Sun have never recovered on Merseyside. So it can be done, we can have an effect, don’t accept this sort of behaviour any longer!! REMEMBER ALL WE ASK IS THAT YOU DO NOT BUY THE SUN AGAIN!! THEY DO NOT DESERVE YOUR MONEY!! We have started an online petition as well concerning this issue, please visit it at Scots Against The Sun Petition and sign it. http://www.petitionthem.com/default.asp?sect=detail&pet=3031

GeordieSteve
whats all this about...? is it comedy? Some see it this way... some see it as discusting racism. How very PC this board is getting
Elliot
Haha! Why would we want to sign that? I don't care what he writes in The Sun. I do read it sometimes for its sport, but wouldn't take anything in there seriously. The majority of English people that I know don't even care what happens in Scotland and its inhabitants, but it seems that many Scots have a massive chip on the shoulder about England (especially football!) and make their point quite vocally, so moaning about some columnists views wont get my vote I'm afraid. Am I allowed to say this, or will the Thought Crime Police be knocking on my door later? It's not that I dislike Scotland (or any other nation for that matter), but "you reap what you sow" springs to mind...

Elliot
do people still get angry about the tabloids? Sounds like it was a column piece as well
Charlotte
If the middle section of the article is true then it's disgusting. I was disappointed when I saw an interview with Andy Murray over the weekend in which he said that he would like any other team except England to win the world cup. And then he expects us to support him at Wimbledon.
Elliot
For a balanced view I worked in Coatbridge last year, and although it was pretty rough in places, most people were nice & polite to me (until I opened my mouth! ) Just kidding, I quite enjoyed it there. What is it with girls fighting in the street there as well!?
Jake
Seems to me that Kelvin Mackenzie's article is based upon fact. Scots do hate the English and do die younger than the average English person. So basically you're getting upset about a little name calling? Not really comparable to the Sun's Hillsborough disaster allegations, is it? Get over it. hogmaw
What do you expect if you read the Sun? Informative news, balanced discussion, reasoned and enlightening argument? The fact that I can do the Sun soduku in my head without even writing in the numbers speaks volumes for the intelligence of the readers that it is trying to attract
stupra
It could be looked at as racism, but then so could the Scotts having a party when England lose at sport (most recently the world cup). I'd say from my own personal experiance, that the other UK countries are more rasist to the English, than we are to them. That said, i've got friends that come from all walks of life, from all over the UK, an they're good blokes, but there are also dick heads from all nations too. Bill Prawn
I think that is a disgrace and the guy that wrote needs to take a look in his own back yard. I have many friends who are Scottish and top people they are too, plus the country is one of the prettiest in the world, granted it has problems but doesn't anywhere. Look at some of the English inner cities! I travel around the world and am proud to be English, I am proud of our heritage, history, language, etc. BUT this weekend I was at the the British (sorry Scotland) round of the MotoGP and I was embarrassed to have all the other nationalities from around the world have to witness the scum that we are now producing. So for a small minded individual to write such a thing in a national newspaper is appaling. We are Nations divided by a common language and I'm sure that if a Scotsman put up the Saltaire in the middle of London he too would probably get the same response from the so called 'Pride of England' as the guy did in Lanarkshire. Surely this is also a case of respecting your surroundings and not antagonising the locals. Would he wear his England shirt on the streets of other countries, but then again we don't know the facts about Mr Robinson, maybe he is that type of guy that likes looking for trouble. Anyway rant over.......

Bill Prawn
What happened at the Moto GP? Nothing happened as such, it is just the way the we as a nation now portray ourselves. Swigging beer from first thing, wanting something for nothing, standards of dress and just general behaviour. Donington is in Leicestershire It's actually in Derbyshire See address. So before you correct me get your facts right;) And I was apologising to Scotland because it's called British so they get tarred with the same brush
Max Headroom
Its the Scots that support any team that play against England that are the real racists. Much better if they just didn't support England at all and just kept quiet about it.

Bill Prawn
Ha ha, just going from what I remember, an what the bike press says. Only messing mate, It is actually on the border and it is a constant row over where it is, bit childish really. Kopite
Don't get me started on The S*n. Even their "apology" to Liverpool was full of shite. They had just signed up Wayne Rooney to write in the paper (twat) and they were aware that hardly anywhere in Liverpool sells it.... nice timing to try and build bridges. Hardly surprising that it was rejected.
Green Peace
I used to see all the rivalry between England, Scotland, Wales as just a bit of fun...I mean we have been taking the piss out of the Irish for Years..like all those jokes English man Scotish man, and Irish man...and Irish people take it on the chin mostly.. I dont think his piece was written with enough humour and has been mis-understood or its just irrisponsible journalism. bear in mind Sun reporters these days are not allowed to have a dig at Asians, Blacks, Germans, French, Lesbians, Gays etc so....I kind of feel a bit sorry for them. If you dont like this twat..then stop buying or reading the paper....hes a saint compaired to Dear Deirdre, Gary Bushall and Michael Winner he he. I have to admit I do read it..and i just find it really funny..i love Jeremy Clarkson's column...but I laugh at him half the time...rather than with him... I'm sure it was meant as a bit of fun but its obviously not come across like that..and thats a bit irrisponsible of him if thats how people have read it! I wouldn't waste your valueble time on it tbh. Si
jamesmark
A few points...... A few are saying get over it etc etc but with the attack not being made against England then views are going to be different, I am almost positive that if a Scottish tabloid made a personal attack on England, Wales, Ireland then there owuld be an equal if not more uproar. Secondly I have to agree with the people who say get over it! ok I don't like personal attacks made against Scotland or England or even Wales but to get so worked up over tabloids is just a waste of time. So what if people slag off other countries and say that facts speak, if they want to be narrow minded and think then so be it don't loose sleep over it. You will always get people who think they know it all and think they can point things out, christ there are people like that on here that like to attack but cant take it back, its called being childish.
