TLicense
Can somebody help me. I've got a laptop that I was hoping to use with my new AEM ecu, but it needs a serial port to work and my laptop has none. Can I buy a PCMCIA card with a serial port? If so can somebody tell me where from (PC world doesn't have any) One guy suggested buying a dockstation but it was nearlly a hundred quid and 90% of it would be redundant. The lap top has PCMCIA, USB, Firewire and parallel (printer) ports. Surely there must be something I can do? Many thanks Tony License
JamesG
You can get a USB to serial converter. How well it works depends on the drivers for the device, and the software you use. If the AEM mapping software is DOS based, then it definitely won't work. If it's Windows based then it probably will. Not that it's relevant to the AEM, but I use ECU mapping software where I work. It had no problems connecting to an ECU using a USB to serial converter. James.
