andrew7
But that is the beauty of an internet forum my friend. If you do not like a particular subject, don't read it. Surely that would be a far easier way of not allowing yourself to be worked up over something you dislike? Instead, you decide it is better to post something that has no relevance to the thread title or content in order to get a reaction. Unfortunately for you, due to the constant sniping at anything sporting, that reaction is now usually one of boredom at yet another attempt from you to start an argument. I recall another thread whereby you stated that you realised most of your your life was useless folly. If you are the type to allow yourself to get so worked up over a thread like this then I am now begining to agree with you. I was trying to end an argument CJ, not start one.... As for posting something that has "no relevance to the thread title or content" well I've never seen that on a forum before.......
imi
He's still a cheating cunt. He was one before the World Cup started and he's an even bigger one now in my book. I hope somebody jumps out of the crowd at Old Trafford and stabs him in the heart. Seriously. Schumacher and Ali also cheated to win, interesting that you seem to approve of that. Which country do you support in sport? Seems you're not English, where are you from? Ahhh...nope...ALI NEVER CHEATED - not that I know of, but yes, he used to pcyche up his opponents in the ring and out of the ring BEFORE fighting them- so the point was that it is not just about the sport, in Ali's case boxing in the right. There is more to it. Schumi - well that bafoon is a cheat...then again, he is the most succefull F1 driver ever, 7 times world champion - so you cant take that away from him. Look at Maradona - hand of god... Look at Arnold Schwaz...same with him, very competitive, also psyched up his opponents. So what Ronaldo did might not be right, but it doesnt surprise me, so why did Rooney fall for it like an amateur....sorry, he has to take responsiblity for that. Remember what happened in the last world cup with Beckham and the Argentinian that sent him off. I wanted England to do well, but sorry, they didnt play well throughout the tournament so deserver to be out. and Mr Ericksson i my opinion in the reason for the mess. the guy hasnt delivered anything since day one. I SUPPORT FRANCE....ZIZU all the way. Take the brazillians for example, in the last 20 mins they were dropping like flies in order to yellow card the french players.....that was hardly sporting but the French were above it all. Its not rocket science, common sense if one keeps their emotions under raps. imi
imi
Dave, he stamped on the guys nuts, and then started pushing people about afterwards... his temper got the better of him yet again, you cant defend that whether he was aggravated or not. Jake, I heard Ryan could have been picked, but he chose Wales...sounds like a kop out. He Deserved to be sent off...certainly you cant say the same for Beckhams sending off last time. imi
What pisses me off is that they did all the hard work fending of the portuguese with 10 men. When they got to the penalties, apart from hargreaves, the other penalties were RUBBISH. If they were good saves, I would put my hand up and say that ricardo did a good job, but lets be honest, the penalties were rubbish.... Kopite
Penalties were crap indeed but for Lampard and Gerrard, they looked like they were running on empty and the concentration wasn't there. Feel sorry for Carra, his first penalty was a peach!

Kopite
True. Well not really, was 120 mins in total The problem was England didn't have many penalty takers out there, Gerrard gave up taking our pennies because he missed quite a few. Lampard was always gonna take one, Carra's hit some peaches in the past but the most pressure he'd of felt was in the Carling Cup Final which hardly compares. Wonder if England still don't practice penaltys? They always say they don't but then again the commentators were saying Hargreaves was the best in the camp. qaisar
Sven was saying they practiced them almost everyday, although i wonder under what conditions they were practiced in Penalties in practice are totally different from penalties after a 120 minutes match with the added pressure of knowing if you miss you are out of the world cup
Charlotte
but where was his support for the other players after he was sent off? Didn't see David walk off. HE at least gave some encouragement to the other lads. OMG Ed, have you been taking your female pills again - even I know that! I'm disappointed with the result. (ooo I sound like a footballer). We had the easiest chance out of all the teams to go all the way, I don't think the chance will be as good in 2010. Can't believe the penalties, We totally lost our nerves. They even fluffed up two of theirs and we still lost!

Kopite
Not excuses dude, it's a fact - England didn't have many penalty takers out there. The top 3 were off due to injury and a red card. Any premiership footballer *should* be able to take a penalty but they can't, i've felt the pressure in shootouts before and fluffed them. Does't disguise the fact that England are a shite team at the moment though
Jake
Ahhh...nope...ALI NEVER CHEATEDHenry Cooper would disagree. Henry decked Cassius Clay in the 4th round of their 1963 webley fight. Clay would've been finished but the bell for end of the round came. He was sat there in his corner in a bad way, he wouldn't have been able to continue. Then suddenly Angelo Dundee called the ref over and said that Clay's glove had mysteriously developed a gash in it and needed to be changed. They sent someone to the dressing room to get another glove. By the time the replacement arrived, several mins later, Clay was pretty much fully recovered and went on to win the fight. If Dundee hadn't slashed Clay's glove he would have lost that fight and the whole history of boxing would have changed.
andrew7
While on the subject of "successful" sportsmen cheating, has anyone seen Rossi cheat? Or Tiger Woods, or Jack Nicklaus? Or Steve Diavis, Steven Hendry (or any W/C snooker player?). Or any of the top tennis players. Shame it is a "common" occurence amongst footballers..... I'll get my coat..... Jake
I don't think you can single out football Anderew. Cheating is common in team sports. In solo sports it's very rare and when it does happen the offenders are usually punished heavily. For some reason a higher degree of gamesmanship seems to be tolerated in team games

If you are going to cite footballers then you have to also mention cricketers, rugby players, cycling, athletics, et al. Football does not have a monopoly on cheating, just a much higher profile. ivan
Bet you lot didn't have the horror of watching the match that I did... I was in a hotel bar in Portugese Madeira - surrounded by the buggers! It was made even worse because Ronaldo is a Madeira lad himself - they're absolutely mad over him. Damn celebrations and partying went on until about 11pm - cars hooting and people cheering the whole time. :( I must say though, there was no gloating or jeering the Brits there at all. Something tells me it wouldn't have been like that over here...

And I'm not glad things turned out the way they did. Henry Cooper was our country's finest boxer of that generation. But yeah, Ali is my all time sporting hero. I love that guy. It guts me to see what he's like now.

Henry Cooper was our country's finest boxer of that generation. But yeah, Ali is my all time sporting hero. I love that guy. It guts me to see what he's like now. This was common knowledge I thought The gash was clinical, ie with a scapel, just like the ones in his corner that would be used to slit the corners of the eye to allow him to see. The story will never be proven as fact but the evidence for it is too strong to ignore. No doubt Ali was the greatest, but on that day Ali was beaten by the better man, Cooper. Onto England Can anyone honestly say we were gonna win with our performances to date? We had a good team on paper but look how we played. I'm as patriotic as they come but we were shocking, through out. And as for taking 2 injured players & a boy as 3 outta our 4 strikers was a very poor call. Sven has a lot to answer for. But wait, he's leaving with a £25 mill fortune so what does he care. Well we got 2 years to sort our act out. Beckham knows the score and good on him for handing on the band, let the next generation carry us through. No doubt we have the talent it just hasn't either been found or utilised yet.
