vodafone GSM PCMCIA laptop cards will do what you want. Their most recent is a 3g card as well. I think we pay £100 for the card and then £5 per month rental which gives 6mb of download.

Most of the major providers will do them, just look for 3g pcmcia or pc card adapters.

I use bluetooth (inbuilt) from my laptop to my Sony Ericsson phone with 3G via Orange. Costs 80p/megabyte. Less if you bundle more (I have bundled 10mb).

Works great, you can chat on the phone at the same time as long as it's getting a 3g signal.

3G coverage is great with Orange, only fair with Voda.

I have just signed up to one of the subscriptions £5 pm for 500min usage per month just to test it - There is no volume (Gig/download) limit - I should have my UID/Pass tomorrow.

It's a deal since, I use BT Broadband too.

Not sure if their PAYG rates are any good but, you can use T-Mobile's net should Openzone not be close by without paying any additional costs - any Sheraton Hotel, Starbucks, Costa Coffee, McD's or Texaco service station. But, more of a priority is at the airport for me.

The cellphone woman at work has just got some Vodafone 3G cards in for a test too :)
