Max Headroom
My first job was a cellar boy for a pub just outside Colchester in Essex, lugging bottles and barrels about all day, paid £5 10s 6p a week. hogmaw
Steeplejack working at the top of a 700ft chimney at a power station in Wales. No health and safety in them days ie no harness!!! I still have bad dreams about it today, esp when I was only on £1.28 per hour.
Supragal
I did that too, from the age of 12-14. I used to get up at the crack on a saturday morning (summer and winter), lead a group of younger kids round some fields and then sort the horses out after. I didn't get any money though, got paid in rides when the other kids had finished we had an hour. Loved it even though i always ended up with 'Mr Crazy' on my ride who would buck his way round the whole field, trying to race the others. haha always the same wherever you go. have you ridden much since? sarjo
I was a lifeguard at a local leisure centre at 16. 2.65 an hour and I thought I was rich. Saved up to buy my first car - a 14 year old black ltd edition Fiesta 1.1, with chrome trims!!! My first modified car - i put a sunroof in it and two thin red stripes all along the sides. Dont forget the anti-static strips that were "in" in the late 80's. Mmmmmmm How times have changed
AndrewOW
£9 a day at 14 years old for 2 hours an evening, 5 a week emptying the bins at my mum's office in Haywards Heath. Beat a paper round cos the conditions were always favourable. Got to use the lift as an when I wanted, and extra helpings of lovely hot choccy from the machines. Nice! Went to work there in a proper job for 10 years. Wasn't the same tho. Graphic design is a responsible job!

Mike
I was 13 I worked in a fruit shop logging barrows of fruit around and sacks of spuds when.. my dad's cousins owned loads of fruit shops around Middlesbrough.. got paid £13 a day! can't actually I did that for about 3 years.. but it afforded me the most impressive 'metal' collection in my school (all on vinyl, of course)... After that I've worked in pubs, I've done catering, built PC's you name it... The sweetest 'gig' I every had (pre-real life) was working on the "shut down" at British Steel.. this is where the plant literally 'shuts down' for a couple of weeks for cleaning and maintenance.... two weeks of 12 hours days basically doing very little and getting paid large amounts of cash.. it funded my student overdraft clearance and Reading Festival going for years! ..god I wish they'd have me back! Mike
My first job was putting tiny little tiwaneese sailboats into bottles. It was a nightmare only lasted a day. Is that in reality or just in 'your mind'....?
Charlotte
haha always the same wherever you go. have you ridden much since? No, kind of gave it up in my teens for a lifestyle of late nights and parties etc. Would love to do it again at some point, just finding the time really. geoffvalenti
My first job was working in the local car accessory shop on saturdays and school holidays, I was 12 and got the princely sum of 16 shillings a day (80p to you youngsters ) I worked a whole week to pay for a new piston and 2nd hand barrel for an old scooter I was playing around with at the time. My Mum then got me a job Saturday mornings and holidays in the factory where she worked in the office, I was about 15 and did various machine work (drilling, press operation etc.) and general labouring. I was really in the money then, 30p an hour When I was 17 or so I was playing trumpet Friday and Saturday nights with a semi pro dance band. We'd sometimes get £10 a night EACH! As well as that, I was doing car repairs for neighbours and work colleagues of my parents etc. My Dad had been a mechanic so I can't really remember ever not being under a car in my spare time, it seemed fairly natural to earn money from something I found easy to do I then was asked to help out for a couple of days casual mechanical work at a company a neighbour was working for. I was working on heavy lorries and ended up staying 2 years. I then started working for myself in the motor trade, repairing cars, buying and selling, recovery, transportation and scrap car removal. After about 15 years I saw the light and channelled my efforts into I.T. via a stint of music studio engineering, and programming arrangements for singer songwriters etc. I.T is by far the easiest money I have ever earned I enjoy working on my own cars, mainly so I know that the job has been done properly, but I don't touch anyone else's cars in a professional capacity these days. Blimey that was more a life history than a first job Sorry for the
