michael
It's tricky http://www.adslguide.org/isps/compare.asp?eclipse=ON&keconnect=ON&nildram=ON&plusnet=ON&zen=ON&cmp_action=Compare I'll have to sit down and compare contention, upload speeds etc and see who looks the best, either way they all seem better than PlusNet! Here's to a weekend on dial-up *gulp*

michael
I can see us both driving around in the car stealing connections - loads of unsecured wireless setups around the area, one right in the middle of the White Rose Centre too so I might go down with my phone if I get desperate On that theme I was thinking of getting a BTOpenzone account for times like this, I might have to investigate that later on. Yeah, if when we move we still can't get broadband I'm gonna stick a wireless access point on the roof, surely the old estate we back onto someone must have an unsecured connection... Darren-K
its a shame you havent got Blueyonder in your area, they have won many awards over the years for ISP., ive been with them many years now,i dunno 5 i think - and its never, ever failed me once. they do upto 10mb. Thorin
make a cantenna lol I'll try it if we can't when we move, I'll have to try and borrow a wireless router off somebody though, I don't want to fork out for one unless I know I can steal somebody else's broadband We're only moving to the other side of the estate though and when this estate was built they decided laying fibre would be a good idea. So I'm not that hopeful we'll get it over the other side either, they keep telling me copper overlay will be complete "before the end of the year" though. Kittyclaws
Does anyone know if virgin are any good? I'm with Virgin, and i'm happy with the service, was with Tiscali before( speed was crap) , was not that happy with them, before that i was with AOL (never again)and with Freeserve before that( always lost connection), will try TalkTalk next as i'm with them on phone bill etc, so will work out cheaper
osso
PlusNet have annoyed me - on Monday they performed an 'upgrade' to my account (2mb to a potential 8mb) and since then it hasn't worked at all. I've spent 7+ hours on hold to their support team without managing to get through and the online support system has yielded nothing more than a response to say it's being passed to someone.... So I want to jump to someone else, PlusNet have been getting gradually worse for the past few years and now it's getting to me. I'm currently on a 2mb 'unlimited' account (which is a lie because it has limits) and pay just over £20 a month, my line has just been regraded and reports 5mb on the modem, I can't use this though as the PlusNet side is down. Ideally I want 2mb+ with minimal limits (not a heavy user but play online games, stream music etc), I don't need email, webspace or anything else really, just a means to get onto the Internet. Any suggestions? (Ideally I'd like you to tell me why I should switch to the company mentioned rather than 'I use AOL, they are great' ) Cant be bothered to read the whole thread, but Demon was offering a 2 meg unlimited line for £19.99 a month, definitely worth checking out http://www.demon.net/demon/products/internetaccess/broadband/home

A collegue at work ordered it on the 5th April and got connected to it yesterday. He had been given 3 activation dates, all went by with no broadband. michael
OK I think I'm settled on Nildram, I've requested my MAC code from PlusNet, no doubt this will take months to sort out though. Anyway I presume Nildram offer some kind of referral system like other ISPs, in which case who wants to say they found me?
Alex
Mike, let me know how you get on with them...I'm tempted too. Though now it's running my ADSL with F9 seems to be ok...and they did give me a free month for dicking me about.
