albundy68
im plannin on givin the TT a bit of TLC before i put her back on the road, (she's been hybernating for the last 9 months or so - long story...). What will i need for a service, its a little more complex than a A or B, coz she hasnt really been serviced since import, on about 38K and from what i can make of the crazy jap service book i think shes had 3 services over there. Im thinking, oil change, coolant, oil/fuel filter, new brakes goin on so pads n fluid to be done, will it need new auto box fluid??? what about cam belt? umm, anything else ive forgot??? i kind of want to take care of everything because im not sure whats been done in jap land... SimonB
Diff and gearbox oil change and maybe power steering fluid, although I don't think you really need to do that lot until 6 years or 60000 miles ish (can't remember exactly, the schedule is on http://www.mkiv.com under technical articles / manuals somewhere). crimbo
Cam-belt is a definate at 60,000 so you got a while yet. check the clutch fluid too but only change it if it's mega sh@gged, coz sometimes if it's thick it seals up any leaks, and there aint no point aiming u're wee at the bucket when it's got a hole in it eh? Belts dont just get changed on mileage guys !!!!!!! they are a perishable item and degrade over the years as a mate of mine found out when he took his ferrari for a service , it had done undr 1000 miles but was 8 or 10 years old , he bought it took it to a main dealer and said 'do whatever it needs' it got a major 'revision' every belt , fluid, hose and brake component was changed !!! Nic
The place that tunes my car checked my timing belt when I had some work done recently and found that the belt was showing signs of wear and needed changing, this was despite having it changed only 2 years (20K km) earlier. They advised me that it would be better to fit a stronger aftermarket belt to cope with the higher bhp. I went with what they advised and they changed all the belts for higher spec ones. I can't remember the brand of the belts but if anyone wants the info I can find out.

Kevin Huntley
That looks like the "power enterprise" Timing belt. I believe they do a strong timing belt and a super strong timing belt. Cheers Kevin
