Paul R
Hi, Last night in the cold my car started idling erraticaly and it nearly stalled at some traffic lights when I stopped. The revs dipped right down and then the ECU must have compensated and bought the revs back up to 1k+, then back to idling erraticaly. Any ideas why it would do this? Is it normal for a 93' supra TT to idle at 8-900 rpm when cold? It's a bit lumpy under normal conditions anyway. Paul.
osso
When i had this problem a while ago, the car was idling erratically for about ten minutes, then after that the problem went away, but 2 weeks later the car started to seriously misfire and it turned out to be a knackered sparkplug in cylinder 6. try and find out when the sparkplugs where changed, if you cant and dont know, it might be worth while changing them so you know that they've been done.. Ian C
Could be a split intake air hose letting in unmetered air. If it freaks out when you lift off the throttle, like it's trying to stall but the coasting wheels keep the engine rotating, it's almost definitely that. -Ian
Paul R
Hi, Doesnt appear to be either of these. when I let my foot off the accelerator, the car settles down, then after a few secs it starts to idle irraticaly. The plugs were put in the car about a week ago, just before I picked it up. Paul.
scooby_doo_do
Could it be that you have aftermarket cams Paul ?? Aparently, if you have them your car ticks over all lumpy ? not sure if all the above is correct ? Craig.
Paul R
Hi, Dunno. I wasnt aware of having aftermarket cams, but it's a possibility I suppose! Anyone know an easy way to check? Paul.

eyefi
its just, sort of uneven. it would depend. if yr car had long cams it would have done this all the time. it wouldnt just start to happen one day. i'd have a look at the idle control valve, make sure thats free. it could b all sorts.
