If I want to perform a basic BPU do I need to change my Manifold/downpipes?

Hopefully buying a rsr GTII exhaust and two decat pipes, have got myself a boost controller coming and an FDC. Does the stock manifold cope with extra boost etc? or should I be changing the whole exhaust system? anything else I am missing.

Thanks in advance

Hi mate

Both Cats out, FCD, Restrictor ring if its a J-spec, and Colder plugs etc it helps if your intercooler is in good nick as well

I would reccomeng an EGT and boost gauge as well

hope this helps

You can't change the stock manifold...there is NO alternative unless you change the turbos too bor say a single.

EDIT - You're UK Spec IGNORE THIS PARAGRAPH - J-spec readers this applies to you.

You may find you're overboosting with a double decat, if you don't have a restrictor ring. If you don't have a restrictor ring speak to Chris Wilson and get one off him to limit your boost to 1.1bar....you can use a boost controller to up it above that.

1.25bar is a

Ok, let me get this straight..

firstly whats an EGT?

so as I have a UK car do I need to get a restrictor ring fitted? can't I control it via the boost controller? or as I understand the restrictor ring sets a level and then I can use the boost contoller to push over that?

I sound confused but I am getting there.. and what plugs are best? as i can buy them today with my exhuast.

Should I do my fuel pump while I am doing this? basic BPU?

EGT = Exhaust Gas Temp.

Your UK car should only boost to about 0.9bar with a full decat, you'll need a boost controller to raise it further. You don't need a restrictor ring as your wastegate isn't over run like the j-spec version.

BKR7E plugs gapped to 0.7-0.8mm (make sure they are the same which ever you pick) and change them every other oil change.

Your fuel pump should be ok for BPU...but if you're concerned buy a GSS341/2 from one of the traders.

What exactly does that mean? wastegate is over run? and this EGT, if I got a sensor maybe my boost controller will monitor it?

ermmm...

Thanks by the way Alex

"ISN'T" not IS sorry my typo.

When the wastegate that controls the boost on a turbo is too small it gets overrun and fails to control/limit boost...the j-spec turbo's suffer this, the UK spec turbo's don't.

You use a boost gauge to monitor it ;) UK spec's don't need restrictor rings/plates as your turbo's are better than the j-spec ones.
