scooby_doo_do
After being stuck in my car since 11:30pm last night, the AA finally managed to get me a flat bed trailor that i could drive straight on to at 7:30am.. Thats after sending 3 other lorrys that couldn't get me on.. So 8 hours sitting it out.. Well done AA. Nice.. Problem : I was doing about 30mph and a cat ran out in front of me, so i anchored on the brakes very hard and i missed the cat... The engine didn't seem to accelerate anymore and i thought i was in the wrong gear.. So changed again this time the engine had cut out completly and i was left rolling with no power steering..Came to complete stop. Alarm on and off... Tried restart.. The car started for a second or 2 went to 1k rpm and dropped and cut out again... Tried this 1 more time and same thing. Disconnected battery and ecu fuses... Waited 15 minutes.. tried again... Same thing... Engine starts and stops. After 6 hours of hazard lights being on,,,,tried again but this time it just tried to start and no ignition... Question... Any ideas.... ? Has it gone to supra heaven? Is there an emergency fuel cut off somewhere? should i go to bed now? Many thanks. Craig.
mikeyb10supra
IF you slammed the old anchors on I would check for lose connections somewhere, something may have been lose and you slaping the old brakes on violently may of just losened it enough so it does'nt work, I would check ignition etc as the car is turning etc but just not firing
ardasaliah
1) Check for a fault code! Chances are something electrical has poped off and the ECU has picked it up 2) Check the coil pack connectors-The little clips that connect to the coil packs under the spark plug cover. same thing happen to me when I braked hard- one came loose. scooby_doo_do
thanks guys, the problem i have is no garage round here (Chelmsford) will touch it, so i can't really get it anywhere... Hopefully i'll be able to fault find it myself, otherwise i'll have to get someone to do a home visit.. Free bacon roll and coffee ?
mikeyb10supra
I would have come over mate but my car is in pieces at the mo as im in the process of fitting twin fans and a FMIC so got the whole bumper off and all Pretty simple really, just whip the old cam cover off and check all wires etc are secure etc
scooby_doo_do
thanks chaps.. I think i'll do some checks on it first and charge the battery up fully.. Then if i get really stuck and can't fix it i will call on you all again and offer a free shuttle service :-) off for some sleep in a bit.. Craig. fastisnice
Im pretty sure, could be one of the ECU wires..SOmething is loose, you need a car - electrician to check it out
scooby_doo_do
that sounds expensive :-(
Whitesupraboy2
check the connections to the ECU in the passanger footwell... maybe a loose connection in there
Chris Wilson
An I/C has probably come completely or partly off.
scooby_doo_do
ok.. I've checked the passenger footwell and tried my hardest to see amongst the thousands of wires if any had come loose at i can't see anything. When i try to start the car it just turns but doesn't start at all now :-( not sure if this is partly due to the battery being dead.. I'll have to wait until tommorrow when it should be charged. :-( I'll go and check the IC pipes now chris
scooby_doo_do
Checked the IC pipes and all fine. Checked the battery and thought i'd give it a quick try again... No joy. just turns and turns and turns, but not a single sound of attempted engine start. Is there a way i can check the fueling ?
Chris Wilson
Get someone to turn it on the key and listen tio the injectors clicking with a screwdriver or socket extension, crack the feed from the fuel pump and check for fuel supply. Remove a coil pack and a plug and check for sparks.
green_dragon
How much fuel is in the tank? could there be an air lock in the fuel line? That's about as technical as I get sorry:twak:
hadyn
Sounds like a knackered fuel pump?
Jezz
Sounds like you've run out of petrol? Was it low? If it was low i guess slamming on the anchors could of dislodged some cack thats gone into the fuel system.
scooby_doo_do
got 3/4 of a tank.... I undid the nut at the back of the fuel rail and turned over the engine and petrol did not spray everywhere? - should it of done so? I had a walbro fitted about 4 years ago.... Think its broken? - that would mean me taking out my boot build :-(
Chris Wilson
Yes, fuel should have come out.
IanK
Have you checked your EFI fuses under the bonnet? I had a problem once, loose connection blew one of the EFI Fuses. Same thing, engine would turn over but no fuel being pumped. The fuse that had gone actually looked fine, it was only when i replaced them with new ones that it solved the problem! Worth a check. scooby_doo_do
Ok, i'll get some new fuses and check them, Then i'll order a new fuel pump maybe and give that ago?
hadyn
Could also be a loose connection to the walbro - this is a common problem...
Ian C
Before you go out buying stuff let's see if we can diagnose the problem first If you put a jumper wire between +B and FP in your diagnostics port, then key on the ignition (but don't try to start the car), your fuel system should fire up. You can clearly hear it without the engine running, a suprisingly loud swooshing. If it doesn't fire up, your pump is dead. If it does, it's probably electrics, as this diagnostic bypasses the fuel pump ECU and some other bits. -Ian
scooby_doo_do
Top Man Ian.. I'll have a look tonight when i get home from work.. Craig.
TRD3000GT
I say fuel pump / fuse to fuel pump or wiring to pump. When you put the ignition on you can test the wiring out the top of the pump hanger for electrical feed before removing the pump hanger etc etc with a multimeter. If you are getting current then take the hanger out, unplug the pump and test the + / - of the plug.. If you are seeing current there your pump has died. Obviously dot do this if you can hear the pump and its working but if your not getting fuel at the rail im 99% sure its the pump
