Steve
I freely admit that I shed a tear when Senna was pronounced dead, he was one of the best drivers ever if not the best. If Senna's life was not so tragicly taken I truly believe that Schumi would not have had so many world titles under his belt the man like most of the greats was a genius behind the wheel. I still remember to this day watching that race on telly when that accident happen. RIP Aryton Senna -A truly awesome driver
Soonto_HAS_soop
I can guarantee that you will not see a member of any current team running across the road to try and help a fellow driver. It has all become too political. I remember when you used to see drivers from different teams picking up members of other teams and driving them back to the pits sat on the side of the cars. That was when F1 was good to watch, now it's like the M25 with convoys of cars. Half the people in that video would hate to see what F1 has become like today. jamesmark
I think it all changed round about the Mansell, Senna era after then it did all decome political.
jim_supra
and that that guys from the crowd, who had seen how useless the marshalls were being, tried to climb the fence so that they could help Purley overturn RW's car and get him out but were stopped from doing so by the Dutch police. Yes, I read something about this also, how the whole crash was handled beggars belief. Although to a certain extent can understand why the spectators were held back, as the rest of the drivers in the race were still racing! A few drivers didn't even slow as they were passing! That was when F1 was good to watch, now it's like the M25 with convoys of cars. Half the people in that video would hate to see what F1 has become like today. I wouldn't say it's become political. Not in this respect anyway. It's become professional. The medical team at the gp's are the best. There's nothing that a dirver could do. More likely do more harm than good. LOL, do you know how thin the bodywork is on a car nowadays?? You're probably talking 1.2mm thick carbon on the sidepods, if you sat on it, nay if you could sit on it with the sidepod wings, chimneys, winglets, sharkfins and plethora of other aerodynamic goodies we have on them nowadays, you'd probably go right through it. The chassis, and it's impact structures are the only strong parts of the cars. As to wether the people in that video would hate to see what F1 has become, I don't think they would. At the end of the day they wanted to win. They wanted it so badly that they risked their lives. Would they be bothererd if spectators didn't like the spectacle? Not if they were winning they wouldn't. If they weren't they'd have used it as a chance to change the rules into their favour so they could win. Much like we do nowadays. It's a thought provoking video for sure. But all of those incidents have pushed on technology. The technology that makes todays race cars, and eventually road-cars safer. Take a read through the F1 technical regs. It's a testiment to every one of those deaths.
