Stu
Talk about stupid insurance companys..this has got to top the lot.Phoned around yesterday for hours trying to get best quote as runs out at end of the month..anyway got price down to £750 comp..3years no claims and 30 years old..well chuffed made sure they were aware it was import and asked for quote to be sent out in writing. All going well until rang them to see how much extra any mods would be out of curiosity of course!!Dick head on the phone then says oh sorry but we cannot insure you now anyway because Uk car is 2997cc and the jap is coming up with 2998cc engine size..told them I had made it clear it was import but he said unless it matches uk specs they won't insure it...what a load of B******S!!Anyone recommend a good insurer bearing in mind tried Tesco,Bell,Norwich union and nearly every one out of jap performance..cheapest was £1200 from direct line! SkyJawa
I'm pretty darn sure the engine cc is identical and that their system is wrong.
Stu
Wish it was..My log book says 2998cc anyone got access to their uk log book?
Digsy
If you are over 30 try A-Plan's import department in Thatcham. Can't remember the number but try a search.
SkyJawa
Your log book is wrong then mate according to the New Zealand site: http://mkiv.supras.org.nz/specs.htm They more often get confused with the MKIII which was something like 2956cc, but not heard of this before. 2997 for the MKIV. Stu
Thanks Darren...any info appreciated..I must be able to get it for less than a grand surely?
Branners
its always a problem on the imports, you talk to one person at an insurance company and they say they have all your details, phone back later to take them up on their kind off and get them to verify its an import and they suddenly put the price up. Best bet is to get a name and keep going back to that same person. JB
Stu
Is it because its the vvti..?This really is a pain up the backside..
SkyJawa
According to NZ they are all 2997 regardless. Just checked my policy with elephant and that says TURBO AUTO (IMPORT) 2997cc.
Stu
I know what you mean JB thats why I had them send me a quote in writing which should land on the mat tomorrow..but the jobsworth that we spoke to said that it says in small print "subject to confirmation"..Also had another company tell me they couldn't quote because only the rz was on the screen and not the rz-s!!..Someone else said they do imports but only have a twin turbo coming up on screen with no specific model!!How thick are they..I said its a bit like saying that there is only one ford Escort..no gl, no rs, no gti...I give up:(
pulse
Stu: You could always go with Tescos definition of the Supra. There's about 8 options to choose (things like Twinturbo and Twin Turbo), all of which are meaningless. Especially as their twin turbo is an SZ not an RZ.. They sent me my paperwork which stated RZ, and I scrawled "twin turbo" next to it, signed it and sent it back. They then sent me a letter saying "SZ Twin Turbo". I figure it should be okay because if there's any trouble they will have MY signed copy that says "RZ Twin Turbo" on it? -p
Stu
Spoke to Tesco yesterday put phone down in the end..reckon I must have been speaking to some till tart as they hadn't a clue about cars and kept saying if we can't find the model on our screen we can't quote you.... Guest The Flash
Just read the trhread mate! I got mine through Admiral - they were about £1,500 cheaper than the next best. Cant remember how much it was, but sure it wasn't much more than the £750 you started with. Am going to be getting in touch with them tomorrow to see how they take mods etc - will let you know! Happy hunting Flash

Scooter
Try 'Rob' at A-plan 0845 0711234 good quote and i asked the "if i were to get an aftermarket exhaust etc" and unprompted he went on to ramble on about exhaust air filter etc not a problem, they look at each case individually etc but only really load the premium if you've done alot of changes that have cost alot too. Would recommend:)

Guest The Flash
Stu Just called my insurer - Admiral - (eliminating all remaining obstacles) and asked for a quote if I up-graded the exhaust! Not sure she fully understood, but cam back with a hike from £710 to £750 !!! She also confirmed it didnt matter which exhaust I went for - it is all catagorised under "Sport Exhaust" and not standard. Didnt go down the De-Cat road, but it isn't too bad. Mind, I am a bit older (Well, a couple of years) and I have 9+ Years NCB so that is probably helping! Any joy from your side? Flash
Stu
Well things looking up..Spoke to a few people and they seemed to think my log book is wrong as they are both 2997cc..so went and looked under the engine and sure enough it is!Get back on the phone to insurers and they say fine as long as its stamped on engine they will stand by quote of £750..great apart from the dope that processed the quote put in annual mileage of 4K...when I said about 8K..to be insured with an allowance 10K was an extra £100 with £500 excess or he would do it for £790 with a £700 excess...how sweet of him!Anyway at least its going to be under £900.Rob at A plan was really helpful but could only do £1190..basically its because I only have 3 years no claims and I'm not an old git like you Flash!LOL;) Should have it all in writing tomorrow I hope..Thanks for all your help though
