Idle Speed Control Valve

Hi All

How easy are these things to get to...?

I have instances where my idle is quite lumpy. Plus when I have been driving on the motorway and come to a stop at a roundabout after filtering off, the engine has stopped.

I had similar symptoms with my Poxalls and after cleaning the ISCV all seemed to work fine again.

Do I need to get the car into a garage, or can I get to it myself and use a can of cleaner....?

I have something simelar happening to mine.

When I start the car from cold, obviously the choke is on and it idle's at about 1400rpm. Even when the engine has warmed up to normal temp and even after a good few miles (4-5) of driving, when I pull up at a junction or whatever, the revs are still up at 1200rpm (ish) and take about 20 seconds or so before they settle back down to normal idle speed. Once i've done that then the car is fine. Just seems like it doesn't want to come off the choke until you stop and let the revs gradually fall.!

Anyone had this at all? I did think that it might have something to do with the O2 sensor.!?

Hiyall,

I have a similar problem with my supe. From cold will idle with choke at around 1300-1500rpm. I think this is quite high but i dont know what it is meant to be. The problem i have seems similar. Once warmed up more often than not the engine seems to idle at around 400-500 RPM to me seems like the engine is close to stalling. Sometimes it does stall. It does this for quite a while sometimes there is no difference after i have run the car for a while. Or even if i stop and restart the engine. Weather also seems to have no effect. Was alright in the recent snow and when there has been heavy rain. Sometimes it runs OK and there is no problems. It is then fun to drive. but i am getting fed up of left foot breaking while utilising the right foot to maintain the revs.

I have had work carried out on the car to replace the air intake temperature sender unit no change with that. I am also waiting to have the speed sensor no1 replaced and am hopefull that this may have an impact. In the meantime if anyone has any thought it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Craig.

Yep. Mine does exactly the same thing. It's definitely affected by whether you are in Drive or not. If I drive a few miles without stopping, when I come to a stop the revs will be too high. As soon as I change into Neutral, the revs gradually fall to 600-650rpm. I'd be very interested to know what the problem is.

James.
