Chris Wilson
Cheers Steve, it went in with full contact down all the side, so no huge point loads, just a general bashing. Could have been a LOT worse if it went in forwards or backwards. Was a bit alarmed to see the seat back just break though, not impressed by that at all........... No I wouldn't be impressed either, it's hardly confidence-inspiring. I hope you won't let the accident put you off getting back on the track asap - reading everything you've posted about the incident it doesn't out me off taking to the tracks and I hope it doesn't you. (I'd certainly have no hesitation in getting in a car with you, even after this little inconvienience)
Chris Wilson
It won't bother me at all, I am a bit ashamed to say I have had far worse accidents than that in my time I am out again early July in one of the Zeus race cars, I'll see what I can do to that...! TLicense
Sorry to see that mate. Part of racing though eh? As long as you're OK. What seat was it Chris? Also as Jake said, what made the seat belt melt?
Pixelfill
Sorry to see that Chris, As a bit of an aside, and demonstrating my naivety here. Is there any track-day insurance that will cover you against this kind of damage, or is trackday insurance more a public liability / injury policy? I'm just wondering as I have a trackday booked, but couldn't afford to be leaving with damage like that, unless I could claim against some form of insurance. Chris Wilson
There are specialist brokers who offer track day cover, yes, but it can be quite pricey. Public liability cover most certainly SHOULD be included in the entry fee and addressed by the event organiser and circuit / venue owners. Personal injury cover is available, but usually excluded as standard from normal life policies. I couldn't get life cover at all when I raced National F3, they just laughed or came up with "sod off" premiums...
Ian C
But the really important question, that you haven't answered yet, is: How the hell did you melt a seatbelt? -Ian
Chris Wilson
But the really important question, that you haven't answered yet, is: How the hell did you melt a seatbelt? -Ian If you have an accident that results in the seatbelt pulling through a buckle or whatever very hard and fast they will melt the webbing slightly, go look at some in a wreckers yard, stopping a 20 stone guy at about 20 G does all sorts of nasty things, both to the belt, and they guy (I am not 20 stone, BTW...) Ian C
Oh I think we were all expecting a spectacular molten pool of seatbeltness rather than a bit runny around the edges -Ian
Angarak
Glad you to see you escaped with bruises Chris (be they from the impact or the missus ). Im impressed how well the skyline chassis coped with the impact, Im also impressed no one has cracked a T-Cut joke yet Out of curiousity, what does a ZEUS look like?
