jim_supra
I'll start off by saying my car's an NA auto. I have been losing alot of oil recently, Have been searching the forum, but have not found anything that would say what it definitely is. The car is losing around 2.5ltrs every 3 or so weeks!! It doesn't smoke on start up, but it does smoke when you put your foot down. This smoke is not thick black, it's very light but sometimes can be a prolonged burst of smoke. There is no oil left on the floor after it's been stood for a while, there is a bit of oil an the side of the block, but only on the right hand side of the engine and not the left so can't be leaking onto the exhaust and burning. I'm putting this oil down to spillage when i've topped up with oil previously I have recently changed the cam cover gaskets and so no oil is leaking from there. I was thinking it was valve stem oil seals, but for it to be losing that much oil, surely it would smoke on start up? Any advice would be much appreciated. Tricky-Ricky
If it was valve guides and seals you would tend to notice a little smoke on the overrun when you come off the throttle after accelerating, as that is when there is most vacume and it will tend to suck any oil through, you could have a leak and find that the sound deadening in the under tray is sucking it up like a sponge. normore1
No oil puddles, no blue smoke on start up, smoke on acceleration and general driving!!! Sounds like oil consumption due to worn or broken rings. Check the compression which should indicate low if you have worn rings (generally oil and compression rings wear at the same rate). Very bad valve stem seals might cause this kind this kind of oil burning but it would also show a big puff of blue smoke on startup. Valve stem seal wear is mostly associated with the TT on the exhaust side due to the high heat. Should be less of an issue with the N/A.

Oh, bol**cks!, I suspected that, Will do a compression test at the weekend then and see how it does (fingers crossed)!
