Civic Type R

Hi Guys

Just wondered if anyone had ever owned a Civic Type R (2003), the wife fancies buying one after she bought an Audi 10 months ago which has been really poor. I’ve had a look round the Civic type r forum but was looking for a more objective view on one :) I.e. insurance, fuel economy, every day driving etc etc

Cheers

Rob

I used to have one before my supra. They are nice cars plenty of boot space fairly quick, the vtec is fun, they nice to drive around and quite comfy. Handling is not to bad. The only gripe I had with it that after a year of owning one revving the engine to 5k rpm to getto the powerband got a bit tiresome but hey it sounded nice. The car never gave me any problems at all fuel eco is not to bad I used to get 350 miles to a tank and that was driving it like it should be driven.... when you replace the tyers don't use anything but the brigestone potenzas or use something with the same spec tyer wall otherwise they are abit sloppy around bends and at high speeds they get unstable. service prices are pretty good. all in all they are nice cars. well I liked it anyway and they have great modding potential I.e superchargers etc. I only went for my supra cos I got fed up with the type r power band being near 5k to 8300krpm. hope that helps.

Thanks guys that is helpfull :) really she's only bothered about the MPG, boot space and looks. But if its doing 350 ish miles to a tank of i suppose 40 - 45 pounds then thats not bad :) I think i need to go and have a test drive of one! Must say the gear stick positioning looks intresting, bet its good for quick shifting.

yeah gearstick is cool very short shift, I used to be on the civic type r forum, just one thing some people blew their engines up when shifting down from 5th to 4th but actually they shifted into 2nd which is not good its suprisingly easy to do cos of the short shift, just something to bear in mind.

I currently own and drive a UKDM type R DC-2.No way does it do 350miles to a tank.Going really easy it will do 280miles.Going hard and its about 200.Costs £40-45 to fill it up.Very reliable car.never any trouble.Has to be driven hard as said to get any power.v-tec kicks in at 5800 but you can get a v-tec controller for £200.This will enable you to select when you want v-tec to engage-but this will increase fuel consumption.Nice rare car.not many on road and it can hit 145mph very easily. It needs a sixth gear for motorway cruising.the new dc-5 has a sixth gear

I had the 30th Anniversary EP3 Civic Type R a few years ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Brilliant car in my opinion. I never managed to get that great a MPG out of it though, on average I would only get around 290 miles out of a tank. Still not too bad though.

DC2's are nice but the DC5 Integra is in my opinion one of the nicest looking cars around. Only problem with DC5's though is the insurance. I could not find a quote for less than £970. Just to put that into perspective, I currently pay £650 for the Supra.

Thanks

Mark
