afennell
Just clearing out some old supra bits, and i have a set of front 4 pot callipers but the drivers side one has a small hairline crack by the thread for the brake hose and did leeks fluid when under pressure. Can this be fixed as I would like to sell them as a working set. I have tried masking tape and staples with no luck. Thanks
Soonto_HAS_soop
Could possibly get it welded and then cleaned back, depends on the level of damage done TBH.
TRD3000GT
Nope.. Welding forged calipers is a bad idea.. Not worth the risk at all to be honest
afennell
Looks like I'm probably going to have to wait until someone just needs the passenger side.
Scooby
I have to go with TRD3000GT! Is it a J-spec caliper coz I have a spare set in my garage! PM me if your interested.
TRD3000GT
Yea, pick one up for cvheap and sell the set.. Chuck the cracked one, its not worth risking for £50 ?
afennell
Its the uk spec 4 pot caliper. Thats why I would like to sell as a working set. I could do with £200 at the mo. I dont need a replacement thanks, these are just sitting around.
afennell
Thanks, thought it would be best just throwing away. I would not like a repaired caliper on my car. Just need to find a passenger side one.
Hobgoblin
There are craftsmen out there, who do this sort of repair every day as their living. I recently bought a set of 4 pot brakes only to discover one of them was cracked in the same place as yours. I found a local company (on a recommendation) who specialise in such repairs, mainly for racing cars, and had mine fixed for £80. Your call
robert_gray
As an engineer i personally would have it fixed and put it on my own car. There are a lot of thing dependant on the repair, How deep the crack is, how good the weld is, where the crack is. Its very possible that it will be ok and who you sell it to wont have any problems but brakes have to deal with alot of stress.
johnd-mkiv
Take it to a specialist welder they will be able to tell you if its possible and when its been welded how well its taken john d
