suprasurrey
Help!! I have just looked at my front tyres and found both to be worn down to the rienforcement on the inside. I had all four wheels aligned but the guy said that the camber angle was out (-1.5 degrees) on both sides and it cannot be adjusted. Is there anything I can do / fit to fix this? connor66
Your camber can be adjusted. If the guy means that he's maxed out the front adjusters and the camber cannot be reduced any further than the -1.5 degrees, look at your caster (not camber) adjustment. Moving the rear adjusters so that the wheels move forward (more positive caster) also affects your camber and makes it more positive. I had a -1.5 degree camber with the front adjuster maxed out, by leaving the front adjuster there, then maxing out the caster by moving the rear adjuster in a positive direction (wheel moves forward), the camber reduced to -0.7 degrees (about half the negative tilt you're seeing now). Hope that helps / made sense Regards Gary
normore1
I doubt your excess tyre wear is due to too much camber. -1.5 degrees is only slightly outside the stock alignment spec of : -0.5 degrees +/- 0.75. Inside wear on the front tires is usually due to excessive toe out (like this: \ /). If you are sure the toe setting is OK the following may be the problem: Toe can be correct when static but dynamically change (while driving) to more out if the lower suspension bushings are worn due to rolling resistance pushing the tires back and into a more toed out orientation. Only solution is to replace the bushings or new lower arms.
Rob
If he's just had a four-wheel alignment I doubt they would have left the car with a huge toe-out. Maybe the guy just couldn't be arsed to adjust it so told a lie to his punter. I went through 4 tyres in 3 months when I first got my car due to excessive lowering springs. I had the camber adjusted to just lightly more negative than stock and now I get a tiny bit of wear on the inners after two years.
suprasurrey
Thanks one and all. I have just removed both front wheels and I think Merityre man speak with fork tongue!! Niether front or rear adjusters are out to the max and appear to be pretty much at mid way round. Also, none of the nuts have any shiny marks on them and appear to have been untouched. suprasurrey
Just finished adjusting the camber angle and toe settings in 35°! It is now correct at -0.5° camber. I have made a toe in/out gauge and bought a caster/camber tool. If anyone would like to use them just give me a shout:thanks:
