Tannhauser
This intrigued me: 70% of the worlds greatest inventions/achievements were made by us Scots. I don't agree at all, but I started thinking about Scottish inventors. Off the top of my head: Baird (TV), Bell (telephone), Watt (improved steam engine), McAdam (roadbuilding) Fleming (penicillin) How has such a small country produced so many great innovators? I know nobody cares, and I'm hijacking, but I'm damn well going to get my 2p in - even in a thread about football (which I know nothing about). Tannhauser
Now let me get this right. A few guys make it their lifelong ambition to get good at the totally non-productive "skill" of pushing a little ball backwards and forwards for 100 yards.. Then non-participants, who have no real purpose in their lives, or who want to distract themself from under-achievement, or the reality of their own lives, take it upon themselves to devote a great part of their lives discussing, analysing, witnessing certain of those morons who push the little ball around.... It's no wonder governments find it it is so easy to get people to go to war and tear each other to bits......... Pffft. Facile and adolescently arrogant. CJ has your points covered. andrew7
Pffft. Facile and adolescently arrogant. Of course it is. When two thirds of the world is living at starvation level, it is most productive for the fortunate few to devote their time and resourses kicking a little ball around and all the other worthless pursuits we adopt to prevent ourselves from facing the reality of our own mortality.... I'm sure the two thirds really appreciate it.... The mistake of man is to believe that his pursuits are worthwhile, when in fact they are mostly useless folly. The difference between you and me is that I realise that most of my life is useless folly, whereas you obviously don't....
