outatime
At the other end of the scale, we're going to pick up our 8 week old Jack Russell tomorrow after work. Got a springer spaniel 'reserved' as well. I'm just sorting out a run and kennel for them on the grass outside the office.

Ark
They're cute puppies, but I must say I don't like to see tails being docked.
Supragal
They're cute puppies, but I must say I don't like to see tails being docked. I'd have prefered him with, but as they are done so young unless you find a "due" litter and request it theres no option until the new legislations kick in. Plus of course then you can't choose the pup it's pot luck which one keeps its tail.
SupraStar 3000
why do they dock the tails? Is it for hygiene
Mike
why do they dock the tails? Is it for hygiene I don't know.. thought it is cosmetic? or for when they're hunting or something?

Paul
why do they dock the tails? Is it for hygiene I think the original idea was for gun dogs and other 'working' types to have the tail docked to prevent them getting caught in fences etc. while doing their job. Then it gets adopted as the breed standard and the original reason has got lost somewhere. I prefer tails intact and don't agree with docking myself. Might have got the info wrong but I seem to remember something along these lines? Paul
Supragal
Paul, you're right AFAIK. It'll take a while until seeing certain breeds with a tail doesn't look odd!! That's one of the reasons I wanted a ridgeback.
Ark
Poor things though. They have tails for a reason - balance.
