michael
I'm not the type of chap to set myself goals in life, I tend to take things as they come and make the best of them but since I was a small fella (about 10) I've always had one target - to have a Ferrari by the time I'm 30..... it seemed so far away back then! It's just dawned on me tonight that I'm 30 next month, I have no Ferrari, I'm going to fail in the only aim in life I've ever had So do I rush out and buy a cheap 308 GT4, Mondial or a 400i to ensure I don't fail myself or rest easy with the fact that I have a superior car on the drive right now? Are you allowed to postpone dreams?
n00b
if we dont have dreams what do we aspire to... once you own your dream then what next? im sure your dream wasnt to own a half dead, battered ferrari... best hold out till you get the type you lusted after mate... or it will only shatter your dream. n00b
Jake
What do you want one of those for? To impress the neighbours? Kid folks how well you're doing? Honestly, why? A guy at my last workplace had the same dream. He saved his arse off for years and managed to get a used 348 when he was 29. He said it was a huge disappointment. Hard work to drive (heavy clutch, no PAS, clunky box) everywhere you went people would bug you about the car all the time, cost a fortune to have serviced. He'd had it about two months (
michael
What do you want one of those for? To impress the neighbours? Kid folks how well you're doing? Honestly, why? It's not for anyone else but me, it's a kid thing - years spent staring at a poster dreaming about owning one, coming up with a single goal in life.... My list of cars to own before I die is long and confused, many of them are considered fairly ordinary, some of them less so - the Ferrari is more about that little bit of something that's hard to put into words, like the Marek my mate has, it's a rebodied Citroen, it's old, it's got it's issues but when you get in it and drive (slower than most modern family hatches) it just has that sparkle.... I have an L reg Supra on the drive, I'm not into impressing people with status symbols, my only critic is myself and I'm fairly easy to please
Jake
Having an old Ferrari is like having a Boxster. "I can't afford the car I really want but some folks might be impressed with this one"
RobSheffield
i disagree Jake. id buy a 348 or 355 because its the car id want i know they have no PAs, and have heavy clutches, but i wouldnt mind, id just be happy (until the £8k valve dropping incident - did he have cambelt replaced) for me i wouldnt care about what people thought, or if they were impressed. its about me and what i want to drive, smae as my car now! Miguel
Go for it, you only get one life altho theres nothing in the rule book that says you can't move the target . I too said I'll have a Porsche by the time I'm 30, it might happen it might not, but one thing that worries me is when I have hit the childhood dream what then, what next ? It never ends darnit dreams just get bigger but the chace is what keeps us going.
CJ
I have moved my goals and dreams frequently as my lifestyle has changed. The only two that have remained constant is to work in a foreign country (and England doesn't count) and to retire and live on Kos.
Jake
I said I'd have a DeLorean before I was 30 ...and I still might.

RedM
Michael, Would you really want to leave a Ferrari on your drive considering you neighbours wonderful driving skills? It's take more than T-Cut.
Muffleman
And a cheap 308 GT4, Mondial or a 400i would only leave you disappointed, your dream car would not be the one you really wanted. Decide what you want, say a 355, and plan for it so that you achieve. You might have to wait until you're 32, but it's still thirtysomething If you dreamt of living in a house and bought a bedsit, the experience would not live up to expectations, so don't buy a 400i etc ! merckx
A 355 or newer would be nice, but they're not cheap. An older model would look too dated for me and they're not exactly good value for money. Only worth it if you're loaded and you can afford the servicing aswell, quite a few of them require engine removal etc which you probably already know. SupraStar 3000
what you have done my friend its achieved a higher goal than that of Ferrari ownership. You are one of the lucky ones. Your a Supra owner, a far superior car than the Ferrari

CJ
Now Callum is here I have had to alter/ change goals and dreams, its not a bad thing though:) Yes, that is it exactly my friend. My goals prior to my sons being born were different to afterwards. Changing them doesn't make achieving the goals any less rewarding though. The other thing I never did was to have the goals limited to time. As my old dad used to say, "If it isn't worth waiting for then it isn't worth it at all". Max Headroom
My brother had a dream of living in Australia and when he got his entry visa when he was 40 he moved his whole family (wife and 3 daughters), sold his house and went there to live. He lasted 5 months and came back, wiser and substantially poorer. Dont let this happen to you with your dream of owning a ferrari The saying the grass is greener on the other side is a lie, its actually brown. Charlotte
The only two that have remained constant is to work in a foreign country (and England doesn't count) Yep, this is something i definitely want to do. Unfortunately life and money get in the way of most of my plans. But you just go with the flow don't you.
DamanC
Wait sir, you will only look at it and be disapointed. Save up further and get the one you really want!
Charlotte
I said I'd have a DeLorean before I was 30 I've got a picture of one on my phone that was driving down the M27 the other day, it wasn't you was it?
Alex
I wouldn't... ...dreams rarely live up to expectation, I expect you'd be hugely dissapointed. You have a better car than any of the ones you have mentioned. Only with the coming of the F430 and the F599 have Ferarri finally made proper cars and not glorified kitcars. Thorin
You old git Michael! (although I'm 30 next march so I've not got much longer myself ) I know what you mean but I wouldn't do it. As you may know I've a mate who has a 348TS (http://www.kulthea.net/ferrari/), he's said a few times he should have just bought a Supra It costs him a fortune, he can't drive it anywhere, it's tempramental, on the rare occasions it's sunny and he takes it out he daren't leave it anywhere. It's a personal thing I know, but ferrari's have never really done it for me, I'd love a 430 or 599 now though!
