Laser Eye Surgery

Im not saying everybody who has the surgery will turn out ok, but it has helped many people have an easier life. I work in the the snowboard/ski world and what a world of difference it makes, not having to worry about your contact lens flying out at high speeds or landing onto your face whilst wearing glasses.

Im not having a go I just feel that sometimes only the bad results are publisized. As you a profesional in this field Kopite, i respect your opinion and im sure others will to.

Anyway good luck to anyone in the process of treatment.

TRD3000 - I have a load of surf shops down that way I deal with. Mostly around Truro and Newquay. I will be spending a lot of time down that way over the next few months. Will I be seeing your supra flying about cornwall?

I had this done about 3 years ago...my eyesight was -6.5 in both eyes.

With my very poor eyesight...i couldn't adjust the focus ring on a camera viewfinder to my eyes...

I made a few enquiries with a quite a few companies including Boots who were the cheapest at the time...They told me they had the latest Laser which was more precise and was desighned by Nasa...this was shortly after the Challenger crashed...so...I went with Ultralase in Guildford lol.

I had to sign about 4 disclaimers..and at no point..even right upto the operation did I feel under any pressure, they even gave me the option of cancelling at the last second if I felt i couldn't go through with it..

To be honest with you I was a big baby and was very scared, it was the unknown that scared me...I thought i was going to be held down and clamped in etc...but it wasn't like that at all...

I felt i had complete control 99 percent of the time and they explained everything to me..what took 20 minutes..seemed like 3 minutes.

It was like a miracle..I could see almost immediately...It was a bit foggy for a couple of hours..I had little or no irratation to speak of and I even drove (against their advice) the next day for a check up...my eyes healed completely within a couple of days..

It was the best £2k I have ever spent.

there are a few after effects though with me they were slight...didn't really get too much halo and that goes away anyhow.

The only thing i did happen for a year was found it difficult in smokey rooms this probably because i was used to contact lenses and my eyes were now exposed to the elements...but this has gone away since....I have fogotten i had it done to be honest and I take it all for granted....

The operation for me was less tramatic then having a filling..and Ultralase had the Highest Success rate(which I was sold on), they also let me choose the Surgeon and check out his CV which I did obviously, he had something like 20 years experience and had worked at Moorfields for many years performing eye related operations.

Ultralase were about £800 more expensive than Boots at the time....but it was worth the extra money for peace of mind.

Since this Ultralase have reduced their prices..and I'd reccomend them to anyone..(the Highest Success rate !!!!!)

There are risks and there is a minority of people that have a few complications, which are userally solved...

Anything can go horrible wrong in life their is a risk to every thing but risks have to be assesed...the risk of anything going wrong is fairly small.

Surfice to say It worked out for me too...its like miracle I couldn't see sod all before it without my contact lenses.

JonW - when you say a bit of pressure how much pressure is that? is it uncomfortable? And the main question is how do you keep your eye open and straight when they are working on it?

They insert a clamp into your eye that keeps it open, you don't feel it. They ask you to stare at a flashing red light which is surprisingly easy to do. By pressure I just mean that you feel a bit of downward pressure on your eye. Not painful at all.
