Celica ST - known problems...

After seeing my car my dad pretty much wants something similar but my mum's but a stop on the idea of another Supra in the family. She has however said he can look at Celicas and has pointed out a T-Reg Celica ST which has done about 60k miles.

 

My question is, is there anything that he should look out for when he goes to see it or test drive it?

The ST is around 140BHP from memory and the GT 173BHP. I owned a GT for 3 years and it was a great car, nothing major to put right. Just things like clutch and brake discs.

 

I would just ensure the clutch is OK but that said its not a big job on the ST\GT.

not sure on the GT but on the Four look for play in the fig of 8's

celica gt had no probs with. only fitted clutch in two years of owner ship.

bruvs got a gt4 very quick car great to drive, but do suffer from fig8 joints also had to replace front wishbones and rear hub bushes. very expensive parts so just make sure the suspension is in order. also they suffer from radiator plastics letting by coolant due to excessive heat in engine bay, and the plastics turn a brownie colour and become brittle.
