DIY aircon recharge

Just to clarify, I had my system checked every year and it did not need refilling. I use AC every time the car is used, which shows the benefits of regular use. It has only been during a period of insufficient use of the system that the pressure dropped enough to need a charge.

A simple check anyone can do is run the car for a few minutes with aircon set to max. Raise the revs to 2000 wait 30 seconds, the sight glass, next to the H cap, should be perfectly clear. Any bubbles or milkyness visible after this time means the gas is low, but probably not low enough to trigger a fault code. Bubbles etc at lower rpm and just after AC activation is normal.
