(see below) Besides which - complete lack of room and time to dedicate that they deserve. when i lost my best friend (a Border Collie) when i was 17...it devestated me to the point of not eating properly for almost 2 weeks. My parents had a Golden Retriever called Barnie when I lived with them and after I moved out we'd look after him on holidays etc. I loved that dog and he would always go mad when I was around. Eventually he ended up as many retrievers do with a flabby heart and bad back legs so he had to be put down. It was one of the hardest things I had to go through. Vicki has said no more pets.
