Pete
Just went out to feed Honey Bunny and found she passed away under her hutch. I knew she wasn't well as she'd stopped drinking in this heat. I tried to force her to drink, even put a saucer of water out right next to her but she wasn't interested. She crawled into the shade where she still was when I just went out to feed her. 8 years old, got her when we moved into this first house. Ben-san
R.I.P. Honey Bunny. Sorry to hear this Pete. The wife's Chinchilla passed away recently and she couldn't bring herself to clear away the hutch... but felt better for it later.

SupraStar 3000
Really sorry Pete. Pets are great and when they die its really awful As a kid we had a massive rabbit warren in the garden after a couple escaped and decided our garden wasn't such a bad place to live and set-up home. In the end had dozens, some in open hutches, others living under ground. We then sold most to local pet shops as Dwarf lop eared rabbits. Two original rabbits lived in the wilderness but were tottal happy to pop in through the cat flap for a quick cuddel and fresh fruit. Happy days

CJ
That's sad Pete. Is 8 a goodly age for a rabbit?
sarjo
That's sad Pete. Is 8 a goodly age for a rabbit? It is a good age for a rabbit - five to seven is about average, depending on the breed too of course. Feel for you Pete.

Pete
Thanks all. I know she's 'only a rabbit', but it's hard not to be emotionally attached. She'd eat choccy drops out of your fingers - two through the wire, then hop into her hutch cos she knew it was feeding time. She'd rub her chin on your hands to say "you're mine" - they have glands there...it's a rabbit thing. Eight is a good age. She was showing signs of her age, couldn't hop properly, couldn't get up to the second story of her hutch. She had a massive pen but couldn't really run around it any more. Her fur was starting to look neglected as she couldn't bend her back around to her bottom any more, I had to comb her. Gotta go bury her now

Paul
Sorry to hear this Pete, and as you say it's not 'only a rabbit', I should imagine that after 8 yrs with you it became a part of everyday life for your family. Never easy, still not got over the loss of my dog a few mths ago, I'm a big softy though when it comes to any animal! Paul

Green Peace
Sorry to hear this Pete... Sounds like he got pampered though and had a good life...I have never had a Bunny..but I really would love to have one one day... Its really hard to lose a pet, its uniquely depressing, unlike losing a relative, because they are such pure souls..when i lost my best friend (a Border Collie) when i was 17...it devestated me to the point of not eating properly for almost 2 weeks. Hugz n Condolences and Honey Bunnny will be in our thoughts today mate. Chin Up Si
