As you know I am close to the guys there. But the thing I really like about them is they dont BS. They dont pretend to know everything, and are not scared to ask/research if there is something they are unsure of. They do not add spurious things or hours to bills, and are not in the motor trade thinking they are going to making a fortune.

All in all, a pretty refreshing experience.

Yep, It makes a massive difference.

They are the only people I trust to do work right and first time. Ill be there next week or the week after for a few hours having some final stuff done before the 25th

Both top guys and hard working and honest..

I too use Phoenix for the nasty stuff that I can't tackle on my own. They did my clutch on time even though I showed up late, and also at a later date sorted out the fix of my 5th gear synchros by a local specialist at an awesome price (and it's all still working perfectly - so much for the 'unrebuildable' getrag box). Oh, and they stayed up late putting my 'box back in so I could pick it up on time, despite massive delays caused to them by Toyota sending the wrong bits several times.

There are VERY few people I trust with my car, Phoenix is definitely one of them.

Terry, you should print this lot out for them to stick up on the wall or something :D

Mark has a very proffesional attitude to work and an amiable character to match. Worth travelling a long distance for piece of mind and no bullshit... although his choice in cafes is questionable :D

LOL know what ya mean, and they dont have any brown sauce on the bacon butties wtf!?

  • 4 months later...

I just searched looking for mechanics in Surrey. I found a thread mentioning Eurospec but the landline number on their website doesn't work, and they didn't answer the mobile. I tried another mechanic recommended in Bracknell - but they also didn't answer the phone.

Then I searched again and found this thread. I'm glad I didn't get answers from the other two, since Pheonix seems to be the place to go. I drop my car off on Saturday and will collect it a week later.

The one thing I'm not happy about is that the mechanics I use for my other car are also near Watford (Kings Langley) - how did I manage to buy another car where I have to travel half way around the M25 to get it serviced?????

Camberley. It's actually the number of people from Surrey / Berkshire on this thread that say they go to Phoenix that convinced me that it wasn't worth finding anywhere closer.

I think I will have to have the cam belt done, which is a bit annoying. It was done just before the last owner bought the car - and he only did 10k miles in 5 years. But cam belts usually have a life of 5 years - and although I'm sure it would be fine, the consequences of it not being.........

Its really hard to find like them guys very honest and know what they doing :respekt: big time to both of them

PLUS thanks to RO (SupRo) for showing them to me first time when I was looking for a trusted specialist.

All the work been done in my car has taken place there, I even go there for very simple jobs cos I think they well deserve the business we give them.

Its non-interference so if it does go everything will still be OK. Mines done 70k and is 11 years old so I think its about time for one :D.

Now you've confused me. What does non-interference mean?

My understanding of cam belts (which comes from bikes really) is that they link the cams to the crank, and therefore time the valve opening / closing. Hence if they snap - valves meet pistons etc.

How can a snapping cam belt not risk this?

That's exactly what I wanted to hear, looks like I will be booking my car in with them for a checkover very soon.

The design of the engine is such that even if the cam belt snaps the pistons won't hit the valves - all Supra engines are like this except the VVTI NA, which are so rare that in 5 years in the club I've never seen one!

Cool. In that case, I'll see what else needs doing at the service before deciding. 10k miles on a belt is not that much and if the only risk of it breaking is that I have to call the RAC then I'll probably leave it for a year. There are a number of other things I think the car needs more (e.g some fresh brake fluid).
