DamanC
I really enjoy what I do at work, it is the management and politics that drive me mad
Guest chiefvinso
I would find it very hard to stick in a job that pained me as much as it seems to some of you. This may be a silly question but why don't you get a new one that you enjoy? I have been trying for a few months now but no joy, dont know whether its because I work in the boro and I am applying for roles back in s wales but I cant even get a job that pays less. Kopite
I hate where i work. Well i don't, i get on with everyone except one person.... who happens to be the boss / director. Had a good argument with him on monday as apparently i have an attitude problem and will be replaced if it carries on. Only problem is i have no idea what he's on about and i pull in more money than most! Never got on with him, never will. Think he was surprised by the way i argued back as he said we'll go for a drink tomorrow to "sort out our differances". It's been 2 years, doubt that's gonna happen so i've started applying for another job. Shame because i like everyone else where i work (about 30 in total), just this one twat who i can't put up with. TreesSZ
My office at school over looks the beach - I teach PE so I'm lucky I'm more or less outside all day. But even so, I look out at the sea and think, yep I'd prefer to be out on the boat than here. Never mind six more weeks, then six weeks holiday. Sorry if I've depressed you even more Amen to that!! I get 8 though:D

carl0s
I'm sat at home reading stuff like this on mkivsupra.net. My job is ok, but I'm full of apathy and it's that that bothers me. I don't have enough (any) money, waiting for cheques to come in, waiting for people to have problems with their computers. I can do wtf I want as long as I'm reachable on the phone, but I still feel fedup. All my money went in the last VAT return last week. I just had a thought. I might go on some visits today and try to get people signed up on monthly contracts. It seems people always ask me if I offer a flat-rate monthyl thing, and I say I never got round to working something out and just bill on an ad-hoc basis, but then when I mention the idea later they're not so keen. Maybe I should charge more. Ho hum.

I was thinkign about doing it and he gave me some pointers one of them being a monthly/yearly thing where they pay x amount by direct debit and for that they gold or silver package they get a service every x amount of time and health check on pc etc. he also does things like pimp himself to all the local pc shps so that all their repairs come to him. he also does fixed rates and fixed rates. Yeah I get passed network related onsite jobs from a good computer shop in Altrincham. I cover a guy who does the same stuff as me when he goes on holiday too. One day I'll have a holiday It's just working out the cost. I have a few companies of 10 - 15 workstations, multiple servers, terminal server with remote offices connected over a VPN.. blah blah and I don't think anything less than £250/month is worth it, but I think to them it seems like a lot.. but when they have a bad day it's like £280 for the full day anyway. I guess part of the problem is that a lot of the time things don't break, and when they do I VPN in, or talk them through it over the phone, and never charge for this 'tech support' or remote support, so they're used to things being sorted easily and cheaply. It's not helped by the fact that it costs me a fucking bomb to get to some clients, which makes me not so eager to just 'fly over there' in my 18mpg car. (I have customers in Leeds, Liverpool, Ilkley and Harrogate.. all over 50 miles from here).
Supragal
Oh, due you should definately have a monthly rate then and THEN offer the phone support. sell it to them like you just did- a bad day will cos thtem £280, how often does that happen? etc
TreesSZ
I was thinking about this but I'm not sure it pay's enough... theres always so much in the news about teacher/nurses not getting paid much, is that true? true unless you are in the private sector like moi (state sector gets a bit dumped on). I think its about 20K in state for a new starting teacher. More if you teach a core or shortage subject (five grand welcome hand shake for ceratin subjects). Its really not as bad as people make out. outatime
My gf wanted to be a primary teacher, she doesn't speak welsh though so it was no go. Shame, she would have been good at it and the holidays are nice and long.
TreesSZ
What subjects are shortage subjects? How long does it take to qualify? Science, maths, english. You can pretty much go anywhere in the country. training takes about 6 months PGCE and a years teaching after that to qualify. get 6k to train. GTP is training on the job. You are Pretty much thrown in at the deep end and the experience can be a bit full on. Get paid more though, 16k I think. Its not easy but really fullfilling. tbourner
Plus some one keeps turning the air con to freez your tits of setting and it blows righ onto my desk Try working in a metal roofed TUV test lab with constant vibration tests going on - the ear defenders work but then you have to put up with your ears sweating because it's so bloody hot!!! Plus they get your own test wrong because you can't talk to them cos it's so noisy!!! I want another job but can't get one that pays what I need that's any better than what I'm doing! I'm training for a Cisco qual now though so hopefully next year I'll be in a better position.
outatime
can't she train over the border? She could, but we live on the west coast so it's quite a slog. Also, no schools around here would employ her with out a decent level of spoken welsh. She's done basic welsh, but no further. She only got her current job (dispensary manager) because she was learning welsh, once she got the job she packed in the lessons. I should add that neither of us are welsh.
