HKS DLi

I have found that which I thought was lost (or stolen from my garage) :)

This is an HKS DLi ignition system (not new but in good condition).

The blurb is as follows:

The Twin Power ignition amplifier incorporates both the CDI and transistor method ignition to provide optimum spark duration and maximum voltage output, resulting in crisper throttle response and a smoother engine powerband. The CDI method, capacity discharge ignition, provides maximum voltage by transferring all stored energy in the capacitor to the ignition coil so that the ignition current can build up quickly, thus making the Twin Power very effective in the higher revs where a normal spark would tend to diminish. This strong rapid spark prevents the high rpm ignition miss that reduces peak power. The transistorized method generates high voltage by using transistors to cut off current to the coil, thus allowing for a long energy discharge. This longer spark duration allows the Twin Power to improve lower RPM throttle response and torque. The combination of the CDI and the transistor method incorporates two distinct systems into one high performance unit, hence the designation of Twin Power. The Twin Power produces a spark output that is typically 1.5-2.5 stronger than of the stock ignition system and consumes about 35% less power input than other ignition amplifiers.

I am looking for just £175 including delivery which is about half the price of a new unit. :)

I'm interested.

Is this suitable for the VVTi engines with their wasted spark ingnition? (Like you'd know!:D)

As you rightly suspected, I haven't got a clue :D

I "think" that Mr. Webley runs one on his car and I seem to recall Terry may have too. I would suggest a few messages to find out my old mate. :)

I have just looked on Terry's VVTi site and he does run one on his car. :)

Does it come with the correct loom to instal it (and idiot proof instructions)?

It comes with a lead and plug and then another lead and plug attached to that one. I dont have instructions either but will have a look on the interwebnet to see if there are any available.

i am sure i have seen the instructions somewhere on the net once, just have to look for it.

i have the original manual and can photo copy the relevent pages for the supra and send it in the post on behalf of cj if you like.

its simple and easy to fit, jus tneed splicing euipment and good soldering tools.

cheers

CJ, is the DLI 1 or 2?

More important, is there an important difference?

(I'm interested BTW)

Hi - this is a DLi 1. I haven't got a clue as to the differences between this and the later model sorry.

Im pretty sure this unit functions just like a stereo power cap but there are 6 of them in this unit (basically 6 capacitors). One for each spark plug.

It charges while its firing so its ready for the next spark instead of drawing direct from the battery each time :)

You know that thread about lieing to the missus to mod the car, weeeell....... :innocent: :innocent: :eyebrows: :eyebrows:

I now have a DLi!

She thinks its is a new headlamp bulb powerpack that broke 'last night' dear.... :sly:

Cheers CJ!

Ha the only problem now is you need a headlamp bulb powerpack
